The scheme of Examination for the post of Upper Division Clerk (UDC) is as under:
The Phase I Preliminary Examination is a qualifying examination, therefore marks won't be counted in the final ranking. One-fourth of the mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Candidates will be shortlisted for Phase-II on the basis of their performance in the Phase - I Preliminary Examination in a ratio of 1:10, i.e. approximately 10 times the number of vacancies in each category. The ESIC UDC Prelims Exam is qualifying in nature.

Phase-II Main Examination marks will be considered for final selection. Negative marking will be applied to each incorrect answer, equal to one-fourth of the mark given to the question. After passing Phase-II Main Examination, the candidates will be shortlisted for Phase-III Computer Skill Test in a ratio of 1:5, i.e. 5 times the number of vacancies in each category. The mains exam for ESIC UDC is an objective-type test.

Computer working knowledge in the case of PWD Candidates incapable of typing shall be assessed through an Objective Type Computer Test with 50 Questions with no negative marking. Computer Skill Test will be a qualifying test. Marks will not be considered for merit ranking. As part of phase three, the ESIC UDC has a computer skill test which is also qualifying in nature.

For applying as Upper Divisional Clerk of the Employee State Insurance Corporation, a candidate has to hold an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong knowledge pertaining to the modus operandi of computers, taking account of databases and Office suites.
For candidates belonging to the category of female/SC/ST/departmental/ex-servicemen, the application fee is INR 250. For candidates belonging to other categories, the application fee is INR 500.
For recruitment as Upper Divisional Clerk of the Employee State Insurance Corporation, the minimum age is 18 years.
