If you are looking for a government job that does not require high educational qualifications, then you might be interested in SSC MTS exam. SSC MTS stands for Staff Selection Commission Multi-Tasking Staff, and it is a national-level competitive exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for the recruitment of Multi-Tasking Staff in various central government departments, ministries, and offices.

Multi-Tasking Staff are non-technical and non-gazetted personnel who perform various tasks such as peon, gardener, daftary, jamadar, junior gestetner operator, chowkidar, safaiwala, etc. These posts are also known as Group-C Central Service posts and they offer a decent salary and other benefits.

To apply for SSC MTS exam, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • You must have passed matriculation or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.
  • You must be between 18 to 25 years of age as on 1st August of the year of examination. However, there are some relaxations in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Ex-servicemen/EWS etc.

The SSC MTS exam consists of two papers: Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is a computer-based test that has four sections: Reasoning Ability, Numerical Aptitude, English Language, and General Awareness. Each section has 25 questions and carries 25 marks. The total duration of Paper-I is 90 minutes. There is no negative marking in Paper-I.

Paper-II is a descriptive test that has one question on short essay or letter writing in English or any language included in the 8th schedule of the Constitution. The maximum marks for Paper-II is 50 and the duration is 30 minutes. Paper-II is only qualifying in nature and is conducted to test the writing skills of the candidates.

The candidates who qualify Paper-I are called for Paper-II. The final selection of the candidates is based on their performance in Paper-I and their preference of states/UTs. The SSC MTS exam is conducted every year and the notification is released on the official website of SSC (www.ssc.nic.in). The application fee for SSC MTS exam is Rs. 100 for general and OBC candidates and nil for SC/ST/PwD/Ex-servicemen/Women/EWS candidates.
