A number of non-verbal reasoning questions are asked in the General Intelligence section of SSC CHSL exam. In this article, we are explaining you the concepts of Mirror-based questions and Embedded Image questions.

Mirror-based Questions

Mirror-based questions are a type of non-verbal reasoning questions that are commonly asked in SSC CHSL exam. In these questions, a figure is given along with a line that represents a mirror. The candidates have to find out which of the four options shows the correct image of the figure when it is reflected by the mirror.

To solve these questions, one should follow some basic rules:

  • The image should be inverted along the line of the mirror. That means, the left side of the figure becomes the right side of the image and vice versa.
  • The shape and size of the image should be exactly the same as the figure. There should be no distortion or rotation of the image.
  • The orientation of the letters or numbers in the image should be reversed. For example, if there is a letter ‘E’ in the figure, it should become ‘3’ in the image.
  • The image should be inverted along the mirror. That means the triangle on the left side of a mirror becomes the triangle on the right side and vice versa. The same applies to a circle and a square.
  • The shape and size of the image should be exactly the same as the figure. There should be no distortion or rotation of the image. Option A and B fail this rule as they have rotated or distorted some parts of the image. Option D also fails this rule as it has changed the size of some parts of the image.
  • The orientation of the letters or numbers in the image should be reversed. For example, if there is a letter ‘E’ in the figure, it should become ‘3’ in the image.

Embedded Image Questions

Embedded based figure questions are a type of non-verbal reasoning questions that are asked in SSC CHSL exam. In these questions, you have to find out which of the four given figures is embedded in the main figure. Embedded means hidden or concealed within another figure.

To solve these questions, you have to look for the shape, size, orientation and position of the given figures in the main figure. You have to ignore the extra lines or curves in the main figure that are not part of the given figures. You may have to check if the given figures are rotated, flipped or enlarged in the main figure. Please read the question carefully to check the given conditions.

For example, look at the following question:

Which of the four figures (A), (B), (C) and (D) is embedded in the main figure?

Main figure:

(A) /\   (B) \/   (C) ||   (D) ==

The correct answer is (A), because the shape of /\ is embedded in the upper part of the main figure. The other figures are not embedded in the main figure.
