SSC CHSL stands for Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level exam, which is conducted every year for various posts such as Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Postal Assistant (PA) and Sorting Assistant (SA). The selection process for SSC CHSL vacancies consists of three stages: Tier-I (computer-based objective test), Tier-II (descriptive paper) and Tier-III (skill test or typing test). The Tier-I exam has four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. Each section has 25 questions and carries 50 marks. The total duration of the exam is 60 minutes. There is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

The Tier-II exam is a descriptive paper of 100 marks, which tests your writing skills or Hindi. You have to write an essay of 200-250 words and a letter or application of 150-200 words within one hour. The minimum qualifying marks for this paper is 33%. The Tier-III exam is a skill test or typing test, which is qualifying in nature. The skill test is for DEO posts and requires you to type 8000 key depressions per hour on a computer. The typing test is for LDC, JSA, PA and SA posts and requires you to type 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi on a computer.

The final merit list for SSC CHSL vacancies is prepared based on the marks obtained in Tier-I and Tier-II exams. The candidates who qualify all the stages are allotted to various posts according to their preferences and availability of vacancies.
