Do you dream of sitting in the driver’s cabin and driving the massive trains of Indian Railways? Becoming an Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) is a matter of great pride and respect. But to get to that driver’s seat, you must first clear the Computer-Based Test (CBT 1). Most students preparing for the ALP exam have a technical or science background (ITI, Diploma, or B.Tech). Because of this, they find the General Awareness section, especially History, very boring and difficult. You might think that completing the History topic is not possible, but RRB does not ask tough questions. They only ask very basic, famous, and repeated questions from 10th-level textbooks. In this blog, we have provided exam-level history questions for RRB ALP exam that you can get for free. And, along with that, we have provided free history tests that will help you know how the exam is being conducted.

What to Study in History for RRB ALP?

You do not need to read thick books to pass this section. The Railway Board only wants to check your basic general knowledge about India’s past. You can divide the whole syllabus into three simple parts:

  • Ancient History: This is the oldest part. Just read about the Indus Valley Civilization (like Harappa), the teachings of Gautam Buddha, and great kings like Ashoka.
  • Medieval History: This is the middle part. Focus on famous battles (like Panipat), the Mughal Empire (Akbar, Shah Jahan), and who built famous monuments like the Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar.
  • Modern History (Most Important!): This is the story of our freedom. 70% of the questions come from here. Read about the 1857 revolt, Mahatma Gandhi’s movements, and the Indian National Congress.

If you just focus on these basic topics, History will become your scoring subject.

5 Simple Tips to Prepare for History for RRB ALP

You do not have the time to read thick history books, and honestly, you do not need to. Here are 5 smart and easy tips to cover this topic quickly:

  1. Target Modern History First: If your exam is near, only study Modern History (1857 to 1947). Most of the History questions in the RRB ALP exam will come from this part alone.
  2. Make a “Who Built What” List: Railway exams love asking about monuments. Make a small list on a piece of paper (e.g., Qutub Minar – Qutb-ud-din Aibak, Taj Mahal – Shah Jahan, Sanchi Stupa – Ashoka) and stick it on your wall.
  3. Think of it as a Movie: Stop trying to memorize dry facts. Read history like a movie story. Try to understand the timeline—who came first, why they fought, and what happened next.
  4. Ignore Deep Dates: Do not waste brain power memorizing the exact birth dates or minor battle dates. Just remember the years of massive events like 1857, 1919, or 1947.
  5. Practice Previous Year Papers: SSC and Railway exam questions mostly match with each other’s GK questions a lot. Solve the previous year’s history questions of RRB Group D, NTPC, and ALP. You will see the same questions repeating!
