Average of a set = {(Sum of all observations in the set) ÷ (Number of observations in the set)}.

Weighted Average:

If the values, ‘x1’, ‘x2’ ……… ‘xn are assigned weights ‘w1’, ‘w2’ …………., ‘wn’, respectively, then

Weighted average = {(w1 x1 + w2x2 + …………… + wnxn)/(w1 + w2 + ……….. + wn)}

ANSWER KEYS and SOLUTIONS:

1) – C)2) – E)3) – A)4) – E)5) – E)6) – E)
7) – D)8) – D)9) – C)10) – B)

Solution 1: C)

Let, number of passed students be x,

So, number of failed students = (65 – x)

According to question,

126x + (65 – x) × 35 = 56 × 65

126x + 2275 – 35x = 3640

91x = 1365

x = 15

So, number of failed students = (65 – 15) = 50

Hence, option c.

Solution 2: E)

Sum of the ages of the 6 family members 4 years ago = 6x years

Sum of the ages of the 7 family members at present = 7x years

So according to question: (x + 4) × 6 + 2 = 7x

6x + 24 + 2 = 7x

x = 26

So, the average age of the family after three years = 26 + 3 = 29 years

Hence, option e.

Solution 3: A)

Let the ones place and tens place of original number be‘x’ and ‘y’, respectively.

So, the original number = 10 × y + x = 10y + x

If the digits are interchanged then the number = 10 × x + y = 10x + y

Let the average of the numbers be ‘a’

So according to the question: 6a + 10x + y – (10y + x) = 6 × (a+3)

6a + 9x – 9y = 6a + 18

9x – 9y = 18

x – y = 2

x = 2 + y ………………(i)

Also, given that the sum of the digits = x + y = 6

2 + y + y = 6 (using (i))

y = 2

And x = 2 + 2 = 4

So, the original number = 10 × 2 + 4 = 24

Hence, option a.

Solution 4: E)

According to the question,

52 × 28 + x + x + 4 = 52.4 ×30

1456 + 2x + 4 = 1572

2x = 112

x = 56

Required average = (56 + 60)/2 = 58 kg

Hence, option e.

RBI Assistant Prelims Free Mock Test

Solution 5: E)

Required average = {19 × 15 – (22 + 34 + 14 + 50)}/15 = 165/15 = 11 kg

Hence, option e.

Solution 6: E)

Total runs scored in 5 innings by Rohit = 80 × 5 = 400

Let the highest and lowest run scored by Rohit be ‘x’ and ‘y’ respectively

Therefore,

(x + y) = 87 × 2

Or, x + y = 174….. (1)

Also, (y + 2 + x – 46 + 96) = 400 – 174

Or, x + y = 174…… (2)

Therefore, highest run scored by Rohit cannot be determined.

Hence, option e.

Solution 7: D)

Sum of all the even numbers = 18 × 3 = 54

Let the three odd numbers be x, (x + 6) and (x + 12)

According to the question,

{54 + x + (x + 6) + (x + 12)} = 25.5 × 6

Or, 3x = 153 – 72

Or, x = 27

Therefore, 2nd odd number = (x + 6) = 33

Highest even number = 33/1.5 = 22

Middle even number = 18

Difference between the two even numbers = 22 – 18 = 4

Therefore, lowest even number = 18 – 4 = 14.

Hence, option d.

Solution 8: D)

Let the quantity of apples sold be x kg

Therefore, quantity of orange sold = 1.2x kg

According to the question,

1350/x – 1500/1.2x = 4

Or, 1350 – 1250 = 4x

Or, x = 100/4

Or, x = 25 kg

Hence, option d.

Solution 9: C)

Average number of boys = (192/3) + 8 = 72

Let the number of boys in one of the class be ‘x’

Therefore, number of boys in other class = 1.25x

Therefore,

1.25x + x = (72 × 3) – 27

Or, x = 189/2.25 = 84

Highest number of boys = 1.25x = 105

Hence, option c.

Solution 10: B)

Required average = (30 × 40 + 40 × 60 + 60 × 50)/(40 + 60 + 50)

= 6600/150 = 44 marks

Hence, option b.
