RRB NTPC Exam is one of the best opportunities for aspirants looking for a government job in the Railways. If you are preparing for it, you know that the Mathematics section is one of the scariest sections. Most candidates fail in the exam just because of scoring low marks in this section. To help you out with these issues, we have provided a free PDF of arithmetic questions for RRB NTPC. It is one of the most scoring and asking topics in the exam. Solving these questions will help you know the types of questions asked in the exam, the difficulty level of the questions, and much more.
Why is Arithmetic Important for RRB NTPC?
In the RRB NTPC CBT-1 exam, the Math section has 30 questions. In CBT-2, there are 35 questions. Out of these, mostly questions come from Arithmetic.
- High Scoring: Unlike Geometry or Algebra, Arithmetic questions are based on daily life logic (like shopping or traveling). They are easier to understand.
- Direct Formulas: Most questions can be solved using simple formulas or short tricks.
- Time Saver: If you practice well, you can solve questions on “Averages” or “Ratios” in less than 30 seconds.
RRB NTPC Arithmetic: Important Topics
You don’t need to study everything. Based on previous years’ papers, here are the topics you must focus on:
| Topic | Key Concepts |
| Time & Work | Men-Days-Hours (MDH) formula, Efficiency methods. |
| Profit & Loss | CP, SP, Discount, Dishonest Shopkeeper problems. |
| Simple & Compound Interest | Difference between SI and CI for 2 years. |
| Ratio & Proportion | Coin problems, Age problems, Partnership. |
| Speed, Time & Distance | Train crossing a pole/platform, Relative speed. |

We have prepared a comprehensive PDF containing exam-level Arithmetic questions. Solving these questions will help you understand the difficulty level of the exam. This PDF covers all the important chapters mentioned above. It is designed to be a quick revision tool for you. You can download it for free and save it on your phone or computer to revise whenever you want.
Q1. A can do a piece of work in 10 days and B in 15 days. If they work together, in how many days will the work be completed?
(a) 5 days
(b) 6 days
(c) 8 days
(d) 9 days
Answer: (b) 6 days
(Logic: Total Work = LCM of 10 & 15 = 30 units. A’s speed = 3, B’s speed = 2. Total speed = 5. Time = 30/5 = 6 days.)
Q2. The cost price of an article is ₹500. It is sold at a profit of 20%. What is the selling price?
(a) ₹550
(b) ₹600
(c) ₹620
(d) ₹580
Answer: (b) ₹600
(Logic: 20% of 500 is 100. SP = 500 + 100 = 600.)
Q3. Find the Simple Interest on ₹4000 at 5% per annum for 3 years.
(a) ₹500
(b) ₹600
(c) ₹800
(d) ₹400
Answer: (b) ₹600
(Logic: SI = (P x R x T) / 100. 4000 x 5 x 3 / 100 = 600)
Q4. The ratio of two numbers is 3:4 and their sum is 28. Find the larger number.
(a) 12
(b) 14
(c) 16
(d) 18
Answer: (c) 16
(Logic: 3x + 4x = 28 => 7x = 28 => x = 4. Larger number is 4 x 4 = 16)
Q5. A train moving at a speed of 72 km/hr crosses a pole in 10 seconds. What is the length of the train?
(a) 100 m
(b) 200 m
(c) 150 m
(d) 300 m
Answer: (b) 200 m
(Logic: Convert km/hr to m/s: 72 x (5/18) = 20 m/s. Distance = Speed x Time = 20 x 10 = 200 meters.)
Q6. The average of 5 numbers is 20. If one number is removed, the average becomes 18. What is the removed number?
(a) 22
(b) 26
(c) 28
(d) 30
Answer: (c) 28
(Logic: Total sum was 5 x 20 = 100. The new sum is 4 x 18 = 72. Removed number = 100 – 72 = 28)
Q7. If A : B = 2 : 3 and B : C = 4 : 5, then find A : B : C.
(a) 8 : 12 : 15
(b) 6 : 9 : 15
(c) 8 : 10 : 15
(d) 2 : 3 : 5
Answer: (a) 8 : 12 : 15
(Logic: Make B common. Multiply first ratio by 4 and second by 3. A:B = 8:12, B:C = 12:15. Combined = 8:12:15.)
Q8. A shopkeeper sells an item for ₹900 after giving a discount of 10% on the marked price. What is the marked price?
(a) ₹990
(b) ₹1000
(c) ₹1100
(d) ₹1200
Answer: (b) ₹1000
(Logic: 90% of MP = 900. So, MP = 1000.)
Q9. What is the LCM of 12, 15, and 20?
(a) 40
(b) 60
(c) 80
(d) 50
Answer: (b) 60
(Logic: 60 is the smallest number divisible by all three.)
Q10. At what rate of compound interest per annum will a sum of ₹1000 become ₹1331 in 3 years?
(a) 8%
(b) 10%
(c) 12%
(d) 15%
Answer: (b) 10%
(Logic: Cube root of 1331/1000 is 11/10. It means money grows 10 to 11 in 1 year. Rate = 1/10 = 10%.)
