The  Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the IBPS Clerk 2025 exam to recruit candidates for Customer Service Associates (CSA-XV). “Since recruitment in the clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks is done on State/UT-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in any one State/UT only.”

• You can apply for only one state.
• You will be considered for vacancies in that state only, irrespective of your domicile.

Applying from home state: Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:

• Proficiency in local language: You are naturally proficient in the local language (reading, writing, speaking, understanding), which is mandatory for final selection. If you have studied the language up to class 10 or above, you may also get an exemption from the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT).
• Less risk of disqualification: If you apply from your home state, there is less chance of failing the LLPT, which is only for qualifying. Failing in the language test will disqualify you even after clearing the main exam.
• Familiar with the environment: If selected, you are likely to be posted near your hometown- helping in work-life balance, family support and reducing the stress of transfer.

Disadvantages:

• High competition: States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal have tough competition due to the high number of local applicants.
• Low vacancy ratio: Some states have a low number of vacancies per applicant, which reduces your chances of selection.

Applying from another state: Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:

Strategic selection: Some states (especially in the south or north-east) have less number of applicants, which means less competition and better chances of selection.

Better vacancy-to-candidate ratio: Selecting a state with a high vacancy-to-applicant ratio can help maximise your chances of selection.

Disadvantages:

• You must be well-versed in the local language: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding. Otherwise, you will fail the LLPT.
•  Adjusting to the new culture, environment and lifestyle can be challenging, especially if you are living away from your home state for the first time.
• If you have not studied the local language in school, you will have to pass the LLPT, and if you fail, you will be disqualified, even if you clear the main exam.

What is LLPT in IBPS Clerk?

The Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) is an important part of the IBPS Clerk selection process. Since the clerical job is state-based, the selected candidate must know the local language of the state they applied for.

Key Points You Need to Know:

• The candidates applying for vacancies of a particular State/UT should be proficient in (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) the specified/opted local language of that State/UT (mentioned in the list provided for each State/ UT).  
• The candidate has to opt for one language at the time of online application for the local language test from the list provided for each State/ UT. 
• Candidates who produce 10th standard or above mark sheet/ certificate evidencing having studied the specified/ opted local language will not be required to undergo the language test.  
• The test will be conducted after qualifying the Online Main examination/ Provisional Allotment but before joining the Bank.  
• The test for knowledge of the specified/ opted local language will be conducted as a part of the selection process by an independent body or by the Bank and will be marks-based and qualifying in nature.  
• Candidates who fail to qualify for this test will not be offered an appointment and will be disqualified from the process.
