Time and Work Questions Quiz Score: 0.00

Q1. A completes a job in 12 days and B completes the same job in 18 days. How long will they take to complete the job together?

Solution:
A’s one-day work = 1/12
B’s one-day work = 1/18

Combined one-day work = 1/12 + 1/18
= 3/36 + 2/36
= 5/36

Time taken together = 1 ÷ (5/36)
= 36/5 days
= 7.2 days

Answer: 7.2 days

Q2. A is twice as efficient as B. If B completes a task in 24 days, how long will A take?

Solution:
Efficiency and time are inversely proportional.

A is twice as efficient as B, so A will take half the time taken by B.

A’s time = 24 ÷ 2
= 12 days

Answer: 12 days

Q3. A and B together complete a task in 10 days. A alone completes it in 15 days. In how many days can B alone complete the task?

Solution:
A and B’s combined one-day work = 1/10
A’s one-day work = 1/15

B’s one-day work = 1/10 − 1/15
= 3/30 − 2/30
= 1/30

Therefore, B alone completes the task in 30 days.

Answer: 30 days

Q4. Twelve workers complete a task in 15 days. How many workers are required to complete the same task in 9 days?

Solution:
For the same amount of work:
Workers × Days = Constant

12 × 15 = Required workers × 9

Required workers = (12 × 15) ÷ 9
= 180 ÷ 9
= 20 workers

Answer: 20 workers

Q5. A, B and C can complete a work in 20, 30 and 60 days respectively. How long will they take to complete the work together?

Solution:
A’s one-day work = 1/20
B’s one-day work = 1/30
C’s one-day work = 1/60

Combined one-day work = 1/20 + 1/30 + 1/60
= 3/60 + 2/60 + 1/60
= 6/60
= 1/10

Therefore, they will complete the work together in 10 days.

Answer: 10 days
