Arun Pratap Singh’s Success Story

I started my preparation in September 2020 for banking exams. At first I appeared for several banking exams but i was not well prepared. By December, i was a bit prepared for PO level exams and I cleared SBI PO prelims in my very first attempt. Unfortunately i couldn’t clear mains as i was not prepared that much. But after that i knew that i can do this. I couldn’t afford to buy any course as i did not had that much money with me. All i had was that i had to prepare on my own. My father is a sales representative and he doesn’t earn that much to cover my expenses. Although i was giving tutions but that also could not ease the way as it should. But with practice and practice, i again appeared for different exams. In my second attempt, my journey became much more difficult than it used to be. After the second wave, my father was at the verge of loosing his job. My family was going through the hardest phase. We were socially, emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted. One day i came home and saw that my family was discussing about skipping our dinner as we didn’t had enough. That was the lowest moment of my life and i went straight to my terrace and cried. I cried a lot as i was thinking that why am i not doing any private job. I can do anything but again i had this thought in my mind that i have to study on my own. I cannot spend any hour inefficiently. These scenarios affected my few exams as i used to shiver in the exam centre just bg thinking about the future and outcomes. It affected my few results as well. So I started again with more effort and consciousness. This year appeared for IBPS PO interview but couldn’t make it to the final list although my interview went so well. And finally now i have one job in my hand which will definitely release pressure from my head.

Section-wise Preparation Strategy

English Section Preparation Strategy

I never tried grammar and it somehow helped me in many sense. I used to read a lot. I read newspaper, articles, books etc. This habit of reading was followed by me everyday wholeheartedly. Editorials, book reading, articles gives you insight about the world as well as sentence structuring. So it helps both way. English reading is very important if someone is appearing for banking exams.

Quantitative Aptitude Section Preparation Strategy

It’s all about practice. The moment you clear you topics, try to practice them as much as you can. For this section, i relied totally on PracticeMock. Sectional mocks, quiz, full mock etc. All give you the better edge. The main focus should be on practice and clarity in concepts. Once you get your concepts clear, solve pre and mains questions. It gives you clarity about the questions and their approach. For preliminary exams you must have some quick approach techniques but for mains, you need to have a better basics and understanding. You cannot apply many short tricks in mains examination so better have a basic approach and stick to it. Try to gain speed in calculation as much as you can because it helps you a lot. I used to do calculation daily for 15 minutes.

Reasoning Section Preparation Strategy

This section also has the same approach as of quants. You need a lot of practice and eventually you will develop your own methods and tricks. They will help you in every exam. Try to solve more mains level questions. It helps you gain confidence.

General Awareness Section Preparation Strategy

I used to follow affairs cloud daily and make notes of that. But this year it really went the other way. One thing that i realized is that one should not focus more on GA as it really gets unexpected. Try to focus more on quants ans reasoning. That doesn’t mean to avoid this section totally. But try to give more preference to those sections and it will surely help you. You can prepare GA of last 4-5 months with monthly pdfs available in the internet. It will be enough.

Overall Strategy, Study Schedule & Challenges Faced

I used to make to-do list daily and tried to finish those works by the time i got to my bed. It is really an effective method as it gives you the idea about how much work is there to be done. Try to study more on those time slots which are in sync with your exams as it alerts your brain in that moment. Give mocks once in two days and analyse them thoroughly. This is very important. Analyze and keep working on your weak areas. This is the best method as far as my perception is concerned. Practice mock has a good collection of mocks. You can also go for oliveboard. But for me, PM worked pretty well. There is one thing which is very important. “Clarity”. This is very important. It can only come if you have outperformed yourself. So try to bring clarity to your thoughts. Meditation is crucial and it helped me a lot. Meditate a lot.

As far as challenges are concerned, It was a hell of ride. From that point where i had nothing to eat, i think i have worked amazingly. These exams were never difficult but the situations i was going through made it very hard. But as they say,” what doesn’t kills you, makes you stronger”. And i was way stronger than before. I fought my battle bravely and won it. This is not the end but a beautiful start.

Message for the Fellow Aspirants

Exams are not just about studying. They are there to test you in every sense. Be ready for everything as life has a lot of surprises. Good and bad. Never be sad about the situation you are going through. You have much more power and strength. Whenever you feel like quitting, just stop everything and try to meditate. Think why is it happening. Think about your strengths. Think that you are the hero of your own story and just imagine winning in every battle. Get emotional with that thought and once again start your journey. Say to yourself that you are way more stronger than these situations.
