Rishiraj Kalita’s Success Story

After completing my graduation in July, 2019, I was really confused which career should i pursue to boost up my career. At that time i came to know about Cat and MBA and thus began my preparations for CAT 2019 in September 2019. My preparation was hugely based on Mock tests and clearing my doubts, if any, from any relevant YouTube videos. After securing 91.75%ile in Cat and converting colleges like GOA INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, DSE HRD, LBSIM, etc; i didn’t enroll myself in these colleges because of the pandemic that suddenly created havoc around the world. I felt that it wasn’t the right time to go for an MBA and that is when i came across the exams of Banking sector. The syllabus of Cat and Banking exams is more or less same and thus began my journey of preparation for bank exams in July 2020. Since i had my basics of reasoning and arithmetic already cleared, the strategy that i followed was lots of mock tests. On an average i attempted around 6-8 prelims mocks on a daily basis, just to increase my speed and accuracy. For around 3 months my life was revolving around mock tests only.

Section-wise Preparation Strategy

The topics of quantitative aptitude have been already taught to us in our school days. After revising all the necessary formulas and concepts, i began solving sections mocks of quantitative aptitude. Reasoning Section Preparation Strategy

Reasoning section is about concentration, adaptability, cool mind and speed. After learning a strategy for solving a particular problem, one should practice those questions and puzzles to strengthen his/her ability and accuracy. Having a cool mind is very important for solving questions of reasoning.

General Awareness Section Preparation Strategy

General Awareness was my weakest section. So i watched a daily current affair video in the last 3 months (before mains) and made notes. Also i went through monthly pdf’s of the last 6 months(before mains). I made notes and arranged them based on institutions, states, countries, etc., i.e., for example the news related to a particular state were written on the same page, news related to a particular bank on the same page and so on.

Overall Strategy, Study Schedule & Challenges Faced

My strategy was simple- Practice and practice by giving lots of mock tests. There was no fixed schedule as such but for 3 months, gave around 6-8 mocks everyday; and after that normal practice, no such hard and fast schedule. The biggest hurdle for me was General Awareness section, but maintaining regular notes helped me overcome it.
