Let us start with the good news! If you have always dreamed of working in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), today is your lucky day. Under special circumstances, the SSC has added 4 brand new types of posts for DRDO in the current Phase 14 exam.
All of these are amazing Group C jobs. The best part? They only require you to have passed your 10th class (Matriculation) or 12th class (Higher Secondary)!
Here is the simple list of the new DRDO jobs added:
- Fire Engine Driver ‘A’: There are 4 vacancies. You just need to be 10th pass. The age limit to apply is 18 to 27 years.
- Firefighter: There are 8 vacancies here. Again, only 10th pass is required. The age limit is 18 to 27 years.
- Security Assistant ‘A’: This is a big one with 51 vacancies! You need to be 12th pass (Higher Secondary) for this. The age limit is 18 to 27 years.
- Vehicle Operator ‘A’: There are 12 vacancies. You just need to be 10th pass. The age limit is 18 to 27 years.
This means there are 75 shiny new vacancies just waiting for you to grab them!
The Sad News: 33 GSI Jobs Have Been Cancelled
Now, we have to talk about the not-so-good news. If you were really hoping to join the Geological Survey of India (GSI) under the Ministry of Mines, you might need to change your exam strategy.
The GSI department has decided to take back a lot of their job openings. Because the department withdrew these vacancies, SSC had no choice but to officially cancel 33 different post categories that were in the original notice.
What exactly got cancelled? Here are a few major examples of the withdrawn posts:
- Drilling Assistant (Grade I and Grade II)
- Laboratory Assistant (Geology, Geophysics, and Chemical)

Do not miss your golden chance! Mark these exact dates on your calendar:
- Application Start Date: Online forms opened on April 13, 2026.
- Last Date to Apply: You must submit your form by May 4, 2026 (Make sure to finish by 11:00 PM).
- Last Date to Pay Fee: You can pay online up to May 5, 2026 (11:00 PM).
- Correction Window: Did you make a mistake in your form? Do not panic! You can fix it between May 11 and May 13, 2026.
- Exam Date: Get your books ready! The computer-based test will be held in June 2026 (Tentative).
How to Apply: Big Changes This Year!
SSC has introduced a brand new website (ssc.gov.in). If you have an old account on their old website, it will not work anymore. You must create a new “One-Time Registration” (OTR) first before you can fill out the form.
Also, pay very close attention to your photograph! You do not need to scan and upload an old printed photo anymore. The new website will take a live photo of you using your computer’s webcam or your phone’s camera while you are filling out the form.
When taking the live photo, find a place with good light, look straight into the camera, and do not wear glasses, a mask, or a hat.
Secret Pro Tip: Link your Aadhaar card when making your OTR account. If you use Aadhaar verification, your form will not be rejected for tiny photo or signature mistakes!
