SBI Clerk LLPT Exam 2025, Check details

The State Bank of India (SBI) has officially released the SBI Clerk 2025 Notification along with 6589 vacancies for the post of Clerk. This year, the recruitment process brings no changes to the Prelims or Mains exam pattern. It introduces an important new phase of the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT). This new phase is important for candidates who haven’t studied the local language of the state they are applying for, in their 10th or 12th standard. The SBI Clerk application process has already started on 6th August 2025. This LLPT stage will be a deciding factor for final selection and appointment. We have noticed that some RBI Assistant candidates who cleared the Mains exam but were not able to join because of their inability to clear LPT (Language Proficiency Test). Candidates who can submit proof of having studied the state’s specified local language in Class 10th or 12th will be exempt from this test. SBI Clerk Local Language Proficiency Test 

The Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) is introduced as Phase III of the SBI Clerk recruitment process. Candidates who are provisionally selected after clearing the Mains exam but do not have evidence (Class 10 or 12 mark sheet) of having studied the specified local language of the state they applied for will have to appear for this test. The test will assess your reading, writing, and speaking skills in the local language. To qualify, you must score the minimum marks set by SBI.

Important Note: If a candidate is not proficient in the local language or fails the LLPT, they will be disqualified, and no appointment will be made. This test ensures good communication and customer service, especially in rural or semi-urban bank branches. Students should take the preparation for this test seriously, especially if they haven’t studied the local language in school.

SBI Clerk Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

The Local Language Proficiency Test is conducted to test candidates’ ability to read, write, and speak the official language of the state/UT they have applied for. Here is the pattern of the examination.

Candidates who are exempt from LLPT

If a candidate has already studied the specified local language of the state in 10th or 12th class, they are not required to take the LLPT. They must provide a valid mark sheet or certificate as proof during document verification.

However, if a candidate has not studied the local language, they will have to appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test after being selected in the Mains exam. This test will check your speaking, reading, and writing ability in the regional language.

If you fail to qualify the test or are found not proficient, your selection will be cancelled, and you will not be offered an appointment, no matter how much is your Mains score.

So, aspirants need to be well-versed in the local language if they haven’t studied it in school.

How to Prepare for the Local Language Test

If you’re someone who hasn’t studied the local language in school. You still have time to prepare. Start by the basics of reading and writing in that language. Practice simple sentences, vocabulary, and pronunciation using online resources, language apps, or by talking to native speakers.

Watch local news channels, movies, or YouTube videos in that language to improve listening and speaking. Daily 30–45 minutes of focused practice can help you build confidence.You may also consider taking help from local tutors or friends fluent in that language.

What Happens if a Candidate Fails the SBI Clerk LLPT?

Candidates who do not qualify the LLPT will not be given an appointment. This test is mandatory for those who haven’t studied the local language in Class 10 or 12. If you’re not proficient in the regional language of the state you applied for, your provisional selection will be cancelled.

So make sure you start preparing early if you fall under this category. The LLPT is as important as the Mains when it comes to final selection.
