Logic: Make B common.
Multiply first ratio by 5 → 15 : 20
Multiply second ratio by 4 → 20 : 28

Answer: (b) 24

Logic:
5 : 8 :: 15 : x
Product of means = Product of extremes
8 × 15 = 5 × x
120 = 5x
x = 24

Q3. The Third Proportional to 9 and 15 is:

Logic:
Third proportional = b² / a
= (15 × 15) / 9
= 225 / 9
= 25

Q4. A sum of ₹2100 is divided among A, B, and C in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. Find the share of B.

Answer: (a) ₹630

Logic:
Total units = 2 + 3 + 5 = 10
Value of 1 unit = 2100 / 10 = 210
B’s share = 3 × 210 = ₹630

Q5. Find the Mean Proportional between 9 and 25.

(d) 16

Answer: (b) 15

Logic:
Mean proportional = √(a × b)
= √(9 × 25)
= √225
= 15

Q6. If 2A = 3B = 4C, find A : B : C.

(a) 2 : 3 : 4
(b) 4 : 3 : 2

Answer: (c) 6 : 4 : 3

Logic (Hide and Seek Method):
Hide A → 3 × 4 = 12
Hide B → 2 × 4 = 8
Hide C → 2 × 3 = 6
Ratio = 12 : 8 : 6
Simplify = 6 : 4 : 3

Q7. A bag contains ₹1, 50p, and 25p coins in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. If the total value is ₹180, find the number of 50p coins.

(a) 120
(b) 150
(c) 90

Answer: (a) 120

Logic:
Value ratio = (2 × 1) : (3 × 0.5) : (4 × 0.25)
= 2 : 1.5 : 1
Total value units = 4.5
4.5x = 180
x = 40
Number of 50p coins = 3x = 3 × 40 = 120

Q8. Two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 7. If 9 is subtracted from each, they become 7 : 11. Find the difference between the numbers.

(a) 6

(c) 15

Answer: (b) 12

Logic (Gap Method):
Initial ratio = 5 : 7 (gap = 2)
New ratio = 7 : 11 (gap = 4)
Multiply first ratio by 2 → 10 : 14
10 → 7 = decrease of 3 units
3 units = 9
1 unit = 3
Difference = 4 units = 4 × 3 = 12

Q9. The ratio of boys and girls in a class is 4 : 5. If there are 20 boys, find the number of girls.

(a) 20
(b) 25
(c) 30
(d) 15

Answer: (b) 25

Logic:
4 units = 20 boys
1 unit = 5
Girls = 5 units = 5 × 5 = 25

Q10. The ratio of income of A and B is 3 : 2 and their expenditure is 4 : 3. If they save ₹2000 and ₹900 respectively, find their income.

(a) ₹2400, ₹1600
(b) ₹7200, ₹4800
(c) ₹6000, ₹4000
(d) ₹3000, ₹2000

Answer: (b) ₹7200, ₹4800

Logic:
Income ratio = 3 : 2
Expenditure ratio = 4 : 3
Savings = Income − Expenditure

1 unit = (3 × 2000 − 4 × 900)
= 6000 − 3600
= 2400

Income of A = 3 × 2400 = ₹7200
Income of B = 2 × 2400 = ₹4800
