Logic:
80A/100 = 50B/100
⇒ 8A = 5B
⇒ B = (8/5)A

Logic:
Required decrease = R / (100 + R) × 100
= 25 / 125 × 100
= 20%

Q3. A student has to secure 33% marks to pass. He scored 125 marks and failed by 40 marks. Find the maximum marks.

Answer: (a) 500

Logic:
Passing marks = 125 + 40 = 165
33% = 165
1% = 5
100% = 500

Q4. If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 20% and the denominator is decreased by 5%, the new fraction becomes 5/2. Find the original fraction.

Logic:
Let original fraction = x/y
New fraction = (120x)/(95y) = 5/2
⇒ x/y = (5/2) × (95/120)
⇒ x/y = 95/48

Q5. In an election, a candidate secured 55% of the votes and won by 500 votes. Find the total number of valid votes.

(b) 5000

Difference = 55% − 45% = 10%
10% = 500

Q6. A man spends 75% of his income. His income increases by 20% and expenditure increases by 10%. Find the percentage increase in savings.

Answer: (a) 50%

Logic:
Let income = 100
Expenditure = 75
Saving = 25

New income = 120
New expenditure = 75 + 10% of 75 = 82.5
New saving = 120 − 82.5 = 37.5

Increase = 12.5
Percentage increase = (12.5 / 25) × 100 = 50%

Q7. If A exceeds B by 40% and B is less than C by 20%, find the ratio A : C.

(a) 28 : 25

Let C = 100
B = 80
A = 80 + 40% of 80 = 112
A : C = 112 : 100 = 28 : 25

Let third number = 100
First number = 120
Second number = 150
Ratio = 120 : 150 = 4 : 5
