Tips to Solve the Percentage Questions

Here are some simple tips to solve percentage questions for IBPS RRB Clerk, which will be useful for the candidates who are preparing for the exam to solve easily and quickly:

1. Understand the Basic Concept First

The  percentage means “out of 100.” For example, 20% means 20 out of 100. The most important formula is: Percentage = (Part ÷ Total) × 100. Use this formula to find how much something is in terms of percentage.

2. Convert Sentences into Numbers

Most questions are written in story form (word problems). So, always read slowly and turn the information into numbers. Example: “A man spends 25% of his salary”  means Spending = 25% of salary. If savings are given and you know how much he spent, you can easily find the total salary.

3. Use Shortcuts to Save Time

Some percentage questions can be solved quickly using ready-made formulas.
Here’s one useful formula: Salary = (Saving × 100) ÷ Saving% %. If you are solving exam-related problems like marks, salary, or passing percentage, use these smart steps instead of long methods.

4. Use Assumptions or Ratios in Sharing Problems

When one person receives more or less than another (like 20% more), use the ratio method.

Let’s say Person B = x
Then Person A = x + 20% of x = 1.2x
Use such simple methods to avoid confusion and lengthy equations.

5. Practice All Types of Questions

Don’t just practice direct percentage problems. This will help you easily handle any type of percentage question in the exam. Try solving 5 questions daily. Also, solve questions where percentage is mixed with topics like:

  • Profit and Loss
  • Marks and Exams
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Population or Growth Problems
