Tips to approach descriptive writing 

Here are a few points or tips to approach descriptive writing to help you approach this tricky part with ease and strategy. 

Read the Topic Carefully

See what is being asked in the topic, and understand what the topic demands. For this, you should read newspaper articles and editorials. By reading, you will develop an understanding of a vast range of topics, and by this, you’ll be able to understand the need for the given essay. What to write and most importantly what not to write. This will also enhance your knowledge and perspective on various topics.

Create a Rough Outline of the Essay

Spend 3-4 minutes planning your essay, like what you will write in the introduction part and what you’ll write in the main body and in the conclusion as well. Make sure you jot down three points for each part of the essay. This will give you an overall idea of what your essay will be about and will save a lot of time, as now you just have to elaborate on the points, and your essay is good to go. 

Make the Introduction Direct and Relevant 

Make sure that the introduction of the essay is relevant and very much directed to the topic. Do not use any quotes or fluff information in the introduction or at any part of the essay. Use a neutral tone. Make sure you are writing it from the observation point of view. Do not try to be opinionated in writing. The essay is given to check the writing skills of the candidate, not the opinions. 

One Idea, One Paragraph 

As you already have, jot down the 3 points on which each part is based. Now elaborate on each point in a paragraph. In this way, the main body structure will be prepared. It will be very easy to understand and concise within the given word limit. 

Conclude the article with a positive note

Make sure you conclude your article on a forward-looking note, meaning what can be better in the long term and what one can expect in future. It shows analytical maturity and a solution-oriented mindset. 

Mistakes to avoid while attempting the Descriptive paper

Here are a few points to keep in mind while writing the essay and also while answering the reading comprehension questions. 

• Make sure not to exceed the word limit, as there is a penalty for this. 
• Use simple, formal English and do not use fancy vocabulary if you’re not sure of the meaning of the word. 
• Do not try to overexplain any point. Again, the clearer the points, the better it is for the examiner to understand what you try to convey through your writing.
