IB MTS Exam Pattern 2025
The IB MTS exam is divided into two parts: Tier 1 and Tier 2. Understanding the exam pattern of the IB MTS exam is very important because it will help you manage your time during the test.
IB MTS Tier 1 Exam Pattern
Tier 1 is the first and most important stage, as your score here decides the final merit list.
- This exam will be conducted online and has objective-type questions (MCQs).
- You will get 1 mark for every correct answer.
- There is a negative marking of 1/4th mark for each incorrect answer.
- Avoid random guessing, as it can lower your score.
- The Tier 1 exam consists of 100 questions in total.
- You will get 60 minutes to complete the entire paper.

IB MTS Tier 2 Exam Pattern
Tier 2 is a Descriptive Test and is qualifying in nature, which means its marks will not be added to your final rank, but you must pass it to be considered for selection. This paper tests your basic English language skills. You will be given 1 hour to write a descriptive paper for a total of 50 marks. To pass this stage, candidates have to score a minimum of 20 marks out of 50.
