RRB NTPC Exam is one of the most prestigious exams for those wanting to work in the Indian Railways. If you are preparing for it, you know that the General Intelligence and Reasoning section is where you can score the maximum marks in the least amount of time. Within this section, Analogy appears in every single shift. Many students find analogies easy, but they often make silly mistakes because they don’t understand the exact relationship between words or numbers. To help you master this topic effectively, we have provided a PDF of important Analogy questions for the RRB NTPC exam. We have also explained the concept of Analogy in simple words and provided a preview of questions in this blog.
Basic Concept of Analogy
Before you start solving, you must understand what Analogy actually is.
In simple words, Analogy means “Similarity” or “Comparison.” The examiner gives you a pair of words, numbers, or letters that have a specific relationship. Your job is to find a similar relationship in another pair.
The Rule: A : B :: C : ?
You have to look at the relationship between A and B, and apply the exact same logic to find what pairs with C.
Why is it tricky?
Sometimes, the relationship is based on General Knowledge (GK).
- Example: Japan : Yen :: India : ?
- Here, if you don’t know that Yen is the currency of Japan, you cannot solve it.
Why is it important?
- High Weightage: You can expect 2-4 questions in the exam.
- Time Saver: You can solve these in 5-10 seconds.
- Scoring: It boosts your overall Reasoning score.

How to Solve Analogy Questions Easily?
Solving Analogy questions is not about guessing; it is about finding the logic. Here are some simple tips to help you choose the right option every time.
- Improve Your General Knowledge: Many analogy questions are based on Country-Capital, Currency, Instruments, or Science units. If you know your GK, these questions are free marks.
- Learn Squares and Cubes: For Number Analogy, memorize squares up to 30 and cubes up to 15. Often, the logic is simply n2 + 1 or n3 – 1.
- Master Alphabet Positions: You should know that A=1, B=2… Z=26. Also, remember the opposite pairs (A-Z, B-Y, C-X). This helps in Letter Analogy.
- Don’t Overthink: Usually, the logic is simple. If you find a very complex logic that takes 2 minutes to figure out, it is probably wrong. Look for the simplest relationship first.
- Eliminate Options: If you are confused between two options, try to fit them into the relationship of the first pair. If it doesn’t fit perfectly, eliminate it.
Note: You can not implement these tricks and tips directly in the exam without carefully practicing them. For that, you can practice them in solving our free topic tests.
