NICL AO English Preparation Strategy 2025 for Prelims Topics

As already discussed above, prelims are of 30 marks, and to score well or maintain accuracy, here’s a detailed plan for each topic. 

Reading Comprehension (RC)

  • First, skim the passage thoroughly to get the main idea, as to what the gist of the passage is. 
  • Focus on tone, whether it is neutral, argumentative, or informative, and also does the passage includes transition words or not. 
  • Vocabulary/Inference-based questions are time-consuming, so try to solve them last.
  • To become a master in this part, you need to practice at least two passages daily, and for that, you can use newspaper editorials, online comprehension sets. 

 Cloze Test

  • To get a good hold on topics such as the cloze test, you need to understand the theme of the passage before attempting it.
  • Use smart solving techniques such as the elimination technique, where you rule out less likely or incorrect options.
  • Improve your grammar usage and daily learn 10-15 words of vocabulary.
  • Practice with mock tests, and you can get a sectional mock test. 

Error Spotting

  • Learn and revise the rules of Subject–Verb Agreement, Verb Tense Consistency, Prepositions & Articles, and the use of Pronouns. 
  • Use short grammar quizzes daily to reinforce or revise these concepts. 

Para Jumbles

  • To solve parajumbles, you need to identify opening and closing lines first.
  • Use connective words and chronological logic to rearrange the paragraph. 
  • Break down the paragraph into logical parts: such as Intro → Expansion → Result/Conclusion. After this, arrange the lines in the discussed order. 

Fill in the Blanks

  • Improve word usage by studying phrasal verbs, collocations, and idioms. 
  • Read more contextual English, such as stories, newspaper articles, to better understand which words fit perfectly without overthinking.

NICL AO English Preparation Strategy 2025 for Mains and Descriptive Test
