As we all know, the preparation for the English section looks simple, but you are informed that it is not that much; if you don’t follow a strategy and a plan, then you will not be able to score good marks in this section. For that, we have provided a week-wise preparation strategy for English for SSC CGL 2025 exam.

Week 1: Build the Foundation [Grammar + Vocabulary]

It is the starting phase of your English preparation in which you should understand the syllabus and exam pattern first. Start your basic preparation by understanding the grammar and vocabulary.

  • Revise basic grammar rules – focus on Parts of Speech, Tenses, and Subject-Verb Agreement.
  • Practice 20–30 grammar-based MCQs daily from previous year questions (PYQs) or mock tests.
  • Start vocabulary building – learn 20 Synonyms & Antonyms daily (use apps/books like Word Power Made Easy or SSC-specific lists).
  • Create a notebook for grammar rules and mistakes. You are advised to note the common rules and your mistakes.
  • Solve 2–3 Cloze Tests or Fill in the Blanks sets by the weekend to apply grammar and vocabulary.

Week 2: Start Practice for English

Now you have basic knowledge of grammar rules and vocabulary. It’s time to take your preparation or move on to advanced preparation. For that, you should focus on:

  • Cover advanced grammar topics – Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech, Modals, and Conditionals.
  • Practice Error Spotting & Sentence Improvement (25–30 questions daily).
  • Start Reading Comprehension practice – 1 passage daily; focus on understanding tone, theme, and inference.
  • Continue vocabulary learning – include Idioms & Phrases (10 per day).
  • Attempt one full-length English section mock test and analyze mistakes.

Week 3: Strengthen and Strategize by Practice

As of now, you have covered at most the whole syllabus, and now it’s time to focus on your practice. Practice is a must because, above you have just geet the knowledge of the subject, but without practice, you will not be able to check your preparation level.

  • Focus on Parajumbles, Sentence Rearrangement, and One-word Substitution – practice 20 questions/day.
  • Solve 1 Cloze Test + 1 Reading Comprehension passage every alternate day.
  • Revise grammar rules and error log notebook from Weeks 1–2.
  • Mock Test Practice – 2 full English section mocks this week with deep analysis.
  • Revise vocabulary from previous weeks and add 5 new words daily.

Week 4: Final Practice and Revision

This is the final week for the SSC CGL 2025 exam preparation, and most importantly, too. This week, you are required to be focused on your weak topics and advanced-level practice. For that, you have to attempt sectional mock tests as much as possible.

  • Try to attempt daily full English section practice (Tier 1 format) that should be time-bounded and should mimic the real exam pattern.
  • Revise all grammar rules + solve 30 Error Spotting & Fillers daily.
  • Final revision of vocabulary notebook – focus on commonly asked words & idioms. Going through your notebook for revision 4-5 days a week is mandatory.
  • Practice advanced-level comprehension passages (longer and inference-based) so that you become able to solve SSC-level passages.
  • Take 3 full SSC CGL mock tests and analyze your mistakes.
