Topic-Wise Tips to Master General Awareness

Since the syllabus is so large, you need smart, focused tricks to remember facts and score high. Below, we have provided some topic-wise tips that will help you know how to tackle a particular topic.

Current Affairs

  • Focus: Everything that happened in the last 6 to 8 months (starting from now, and going back). Focus on news related to government schemes, major awards, military exercises, and sports events.
  • Tip: Do not read newspapers daily now. Instead, use a good monthly current affairs magazine or PDF summary. This saves time and gives you only the important points. Revise these PDFs twice a month.

History

  • Focus: Modern History is the most important part. Know the dates of major events like the Quit India Movement, Non-Cooperation, and the major Viceroys.
  • Tip: Create a Timeline Chart. Write down the event, the year, and the person related to it. Stick it on your wall and look at it often.

Geography

  • Focus: Indian Rivers, Dams, National Parks, and the States/Capitals.
  • Tip: Always study Geography using a Map. Looking at a river’s path or a national park’s location on a map helps you remember it much better than just reading text.

Indian Polity

  • Focus: Know the Part and Article numbers for Fundamental Rights (Part III), Fundamental Duties (Part IVA), and the basic structure of the Constitution.
  • Tip: Make a simple list of the 20 most important Articles (e.g., Article 14, 19, 32, 51A). They are often asked directly.

General Science

  • Focus: Biology (Human body, diseases caused by deficiency or bacteria/virus) is the king here.
  • Tip: Use tables to list: Vitamin Name -> Scientific Name -> Deficiency Disease. Similarly, list the Inventions -> Inventor. This makes revision fast.

Strategy to Boost Your SSC CHSL Tier 2 General Awareness Marks

Here, we have provided a simple strategy that will help you boost your SSC CHSL Tier 2 general awareness marks.

1. Focus on SSC CHSL Tier 2 PYQs (Previous Year Questions)

You need to know the type of questions SSC asks. Once you have read a topic (like the Indian Parliament), immediately solve the previous year’s questions (PYQs) asked in SSC exams (CHSL Tier 2). This shows you the difficulty level and types of questions SSC has asked on a particular topic.

2. Practice with a Timer, and Revise as much as Possible

General Awareness is different. You need dedicated time to learn and memorize facts (no timer needed). But when you solve a practice set of 10 general awareness questions, always use a timer. You should aim to solve 10 questions in 5 minutes to save time for Maths and Reasoning.

3. Take Full Mock Tests Regularly

Mock tests are your best report card. Take a full Tier 2 mock test every week. When you check your results, spend time on the general awareness section:

  • Which questions did I get wrong? (e.g., a mistake in a History date).
  • Which questions did I skip or guess?
  • Which topics need more reading? (e.g., I keep failing questions on the Indian Economy).

Then, for the next 2-3 days, work specifically on fixing those weak areas. Start smart, stay consistent, and remember that General Awareness can be your shortcut to a great final score.
