In this blog, we are covering a detailed guide on day based puzzles ibps po, including a free PDF and expert tips to solve them quickly.

What are Day Based Puzzles?

The day-based puzzles are a subtopic of the Scheduling Puzzles topic, asked in the Reasoning section of the IBPS PO exam. These puzzles are based on the days of the week and test your ability to think logically and organize information. In these questions, you are given clues related to people, activities, or events occurring on different days of the week (e.g., Monday to Sunday). Your task is to determine the correct day-wise arrangement using the given clues.

Example:

Seven people – A, B, C, D, E, F, and G – attend yoga sessions on different days of the week, starting from Monday to Sunday. Only one person attends the session on each day.
Clues:

  1. A attends on Wednesday.
  2. D attends two days before A.
  3. F attends on the last day.
  4. B attends immediately after C.
  5. E does not attend on Monday.

You need to use logic and elimination to assign a unique person to each day.

Common Day Based Puzzles Formats asked in IBPS PO Exam

There are generally 3 types of day-based puzzle formats asked in the exam. They are provided below:

1. Single Variable format
Person → Day
Example: Seven friends attend classes on different days of the week.

2. Double Variable Format
Person → Day + Activity
Example: Seven friends play different sports on different days.

3. Variable + Order Format
Person → Day (ascending or descending order of days)
Example: Events happening before/after certain days.

  • Fill fixed information first (e.g., “A attends on Wednesday”).
  • Use relative clues (like “two days before”) to place others.
  • Use elimination and cross-check clues.
  • Keep track of possibilities based on the clues provided.

Answer the Day Based Puzzle for IBPS Question Provided below:

Directions: Answer the questions based on the information given below.

Seven persons M, N, O, P, Q, R and S have meetings on different days of the week from Monday to Sunday but not necessarily in same order. Each of them works in different banks among Canara, ICICI, Kotak, Oriental, PNB, SBI and UCO.

S does not have meeting just after P’s meeting. M has meeting on Wednesday. Person, who has meeting on Sunday works in Canara bank. P works in PNB and has meeting on neither Friday nor Tuesday. N has meeting on Monday and works in Kotak bank. R works in SBI. Person, who works in UCO has meeting just after person, who works in Oriental bank. M works in neither UCO nor Oriental. Q has meeting just after O but none of them has meeting on Sunday.

Common solution:

Starting point: Here, after using all the direct information, we can use statements related to P in order to make two cases.

Clues: M has meeting on Wednesday. Person, who has meeting on Sunday works in Canara bank. P works in PNB and has meeting on neither Friday nor Tuesday. N has meeting on Monday and works in Kotak bank.

Inference: So, we have two cases as P has meeting on either Thursday or Saturday.

Clues: Person, who works in UCO has meeting just after person, who works in Oriental bank. M works in neither UCO nor Oriental. R works in SBI.

Inference: Therefore, R must have meeting on Tuesday. Also, M must be working in ICICI.

  • Start with puzzles that contain more marks (4–5 questions) and skip 1–2 question sets unless time remains.

2. Draw Appropriate Diagrams using Given Information

  • Draw the appropriate structure (e.g., day–subject grid for day puzzles) as you read each clue .
  • Use markings: “✓” for confirmed, “×” to eliminate, and “?” for tentative entries.

3. Apply Direct Clues First to Your Diagram

  • Apply direct info first to try to decode the puzzle.
  • Use elimination logic and consider possibilities rather than guessing.

4. Stick to a Time Limit

  • Solve each medium puzzle (including day-based) in 5–6 minutes max; skip and return if you exceed this.
  • Keep practicing under timed conditions to build a habit.

5. Avoid Over-Assumptions

  • Use only provided info, no external assumptions.
  • Review each placement; one small error can make the entire set of questions incorrect.

6. Simplify Clues and Use Negative Info Carefully

  • Extract “actual info” (what’s given), treat “not” clues as elimination tools .
  • Rewrite the clues in short form before mapping.

7. Practice Variety of Questions and Analyse

  • Solve a mix: day-based, seating, box, and floor-based puzzles daily (2–5 per session), and go on with the exam pace.
  • After each session, revise mistakes and note any recurring/repeating patterns.

8. Topper’s Strategy

“Choose the puzzles you are better at first…write the given conditions quickly and concisely.”

“Solve 5‑10 puzzles daily…note all info in 1 min and solve in 3 min.”
