Therefore, the SBI Clerk Vacancy 2026 figure is 9,766 when the 7,680 regular vacancies and the 2,086 backlog figure are considered together.

However, candidates should understand how SBI has structured this table. The notification separately displays 287 SC/ST/OBC backlog positions, 355 PwBD backlog reservations and 1,444 under the XS/DXS backlog total column. SBI also states that reservation for PwBD/XS/DXS is horizontal and is included in vacancies of the respective parent categories. These reservation figures should therefore not all be added independently, as doing so would lead to double counting.

SBI has specifically clarified that the SC/ST/OBC backlog vacancies are net of the vacancies advertised under the Special Recruitment Drive, Advertisement No. CRPD/CR/SPLDRIVE/2026-27/16.

This clarification is important because candidates should not add the entire Special Recruitment Drive vacancy figure again to the figures reported in the regular notification.

SBI Clerk Vacancy 2026: Why State-Wise Vacancies Matter

SBI Clerk recruitment is conducted on a State/UT basis.

Candidates can apply for vacancies in only one State or Union Territory. The merit list is also prepared State-wise and category-wise, and selected candidates are posted in the State/UT for which they applied.

Candidates should therefore consider:

  • Total vacancies in their State
  • Category-wise vacancies
  • Specified local language
  • Previous-year cut-off
  • Competition level

SBI Clerk Previous Year Vacancy Trends

The SBI Clerk previous year vacancy trend shows significant variation in recruitment numbers across different years.

For 2026, SBI has announced 7,680 regular vacancies, compared with 5,180 regular vacancies in the previous recruitment cycle. This means the number of regular vacancies has increased by 2,500, or approximately 48.3%, year-on-year.

The trend shows that SBI does not recruit a fixed number of Junior Associates every year.

The most important year-on-year change for candidates is the increase in regular vacancies from 5,180 in 2025 to 7,680 in 2026.

What Has Changed in SBI Clerk 2026?

The SBI Clerk Notification 2026 retains most of the previous examination structure but introduces some important changes and clarifications compared with the 2025 recruitment.

1. SBI Clerk Regular Vacancies Increased

SBI has announced 7,680 regular vacancies in 2026, compared with 5,180 regular vacancies in 2025.

This represents an increase of:

7,680 − 5,180 = 2,500 additional regular vacancies

That is approximately a 48.3% increase in regular vacancies compared with the previous recruitment cycle.

2. Modification to the Transfer Policy: 5-Year Clause Added

A notable change in the SBI Clerk 2026 notification concerns Inter-Circle and Inter-State transfers.

2025 Rule: The previous recruitment notification stated that there was no provision for Inter-Circle or Inter-State transfer for newly recruited Junior Associates.

2026 Change: SBI now specifically states that there is no provision for Inter-Circle/Inter-State transfer before completion of five years of service. However, after completing five years, transfer requests can be considered in exceptional cases such as Extreme Compassionate Ground or Spouse Ground.

Such a transfer is not automatic. SBI will consider it at its sole discretion and according to the transfer policy or instructions applicable at that time.

In simple terms:

2025: No normal Inter-Circle/Inter-State transfer provision.

2026: Transfer requests may be considered after five years, but only under specified exceptional circumstances and subject to SBI approval.

3. Backlog Vacancy Clarification Added in 2026

The 2026 regular notification explicitly includes a clarification that:

The SC/ST/OBC backlog vacancies mentioned in the notification are net of vacancies already advertised under the SBI Clerk Special Recruitment Drive 2026.

The Special Recruitment Drive was issued separately under Advertisement No. CRPD/CR/SPLDRIVE/2026-27/16.

Therefore, the Special Recruitment Drive vacancies should not be added again to the regular notification's SC/ST/OBC backlog figures while calculating vacancy availability.

4.No vacancies in this states

As per the official SBI Clerk 2026 vacancy notification, no vacancies have been reported for the following States/UTs

  • Andhra Pradesh,
  • Bihar
  • Haryana
  • Jharkhand
  • Kerala
  • Punjab
  • Uttarakhand
  • Chandigarh(UT)
  • Delhi (NCT)
  • Dadra & Nagar Haveli
