As we know, the SSC has changed its vendor, and now, EduQuity is responsible for conducting the SSC exams. It has been seen that SSC has asked questions from other topics. In the same way, SSC has asked questions from the permutation and combination topic in the SSC Phase 13 exam. EduQuity’s new pattern questions can be seen in the SSC CGL 2025 Tier 1 exam. Keeping this in mind, we have provided the permutations and combinations for SSC CGL exam. Questions and their solutions have been provided in the form of a PDF that you can download for free. Along with that, we have also provided detailed information on the concepts in some free preparation resources.

Basic Concept on Permutations and Combinations
Permutations and Combinations are fundamental concepts in the quantitative aptitude section, which is used to check the candidate’s ability to calculate arrangements and selections.
Permutations
A permutation is an arrangement in a definite order of many objects taken some or all at a time.
Formula: nPr = n! / (n-r)! where ‘n’ is the total number of items and ‘r’ is the number of items being arranged.
Combinations
A combination is a selection of items from a group, such that the order of selection does not change the outcome.
For example, choosing 2 fruits from {apple, banana, cherry}:
- {apple, banana} is the same as {banana, apple} → only one combination.
Formula: The number of combinations of choosing r items from a set of n items is given by:

Factorial
The notation n! represents the product of the first n natural numbers, i.e., the product 1 × 2 × 3 × . . . × (n – 1) × n is denoted as n!. We read this symbol as ‘n factorial’. Thus, 1 × 2 × 3 × 4 . . . × (n – 1) × n = n !
1 = 1 !
1 × 2 = 2 !
1× 2 × 3 = 3 !
1 × 2 × 3 × 4 = 4 ! and so on.
We define 0 ! = 1
We can write 5 ! = 5 × 4 ! = 5 × 4 × 3 ! = 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 !
= 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1!
Clearly, for a natural number n
n ! = n (n – 1) !
= n (n – 1) (n – 2) ! [provided (n ≥ 2)]
= n (n – 1) (n – 2) (n – 3) ! [provided (n ≥ 3)]
and so on.
