IBPS SO Quant Detailed Preparation Strategy 2025

The IBPS SO Prelims exam is scheduled for 30th August 2025. The IBPS SO exam is conducted every year to recruit suitable candidates for specialized posts. A total of 11 participating banks are involved in this recruitment. The selection process involves a Prelims exam, a Mains exam, and an Interview. The candidates who qualify in the Prelims exam can appear in the Mains exam. There are a total of 1007 vacancies this year. Candidates must focus on getting above the cut-off marks in each section of the exam. The Quantitative Aptitude section consists of 50 questions of 50 marks to be completed in 40 minutes. With the right preparation strategy, it is possible to attempt the maximum number of questions correctly. There is a sectional cut-off in the Prelims exam along with the sectional timings. The IBPS SO Quant preparation requires a dedicated strategy to attempt each question asked in the exam with accuracy. The Quantitative Aptitude can be the most scoring section if prepared well. You just have to make the most of the time available to you. First, know the exam pattern of IBPS SO, and prepare accordingly. Then, focus on building strong fundamentals. You should make a proper study schedule and dedicate 1 slot to quant practice. Practicing questions from the previous year’s paper will help you score above the cut-off marks. Step 1 – Know the Pattern of the Exam

The IBPS SO Prelims Exam Pattern contains Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, and Reasoning Ability sections. Below, we have provided the exam pattern for Specialist Officer Posts. There are sectional timings and negative marking of 1/4th marks in the IBPS SO exam.

Note: The Law Officer Scale 1 and Rajbhasha Adhikari Scale 1 Posts have a different pattern for Prelims. They have General Awareness in place of Quantitative Aptitude.

Step 2 – Build Fundamentals for Quant

Make your basic fundamentals strong, especially for the quant section. When you learn the basic concepts of important topics of quant, it becomes easy for you to score better. Below we have provided some tips to excel in the quant section.

Learn basic concepts of important topics:

• Simplification and Approximation: Some questions that are based on simplification & approximation are considered a little easier to solve and to the point. Sufficient practice of these questions will ensure that you score in these questions easily. A good command of approximation questions will sometimes enable you to answer questions related to approximation without picking up the pen.
• Data Interpretation: When approaching the questions based on data interpretation, have a thorough look at the charts/tables and avoid making silly mistakes. Avoid jumping to answer before having a proper look at the questions.
• Average and Ratios: Learning concepts like averages, ratios & percentages builds basic strong foundation for other topics as well. Not only will these concepts help you in word problems, but prioritizing questions based on these concepts in DI sets will help you score higher.
• Multiplication Table: You need to memorize the tables until 30 and square & square roots of numbers until 30 and cube & cube roots until 20.
• Identify Questions: Any section will have a mix of easy & difficult questions. It’s really tricky to have a look at the questions, solve the easy ones, and skip the ones that are difficult. Make a smart choice while attempting the questions. This art of judgement will only come by practising more & more mock tests.
• Practice Time Management: Practice time management while answering the questions. If solving a question takes more than 50 seconds, it’s better to skip the question than spend any further time on it.
• Additional Tip: Last but not least, be ready to answer strange questions! If there is any new type of question or if there is a change in the format of the paper, it is applicable to the rest of the applicants as well. Don’t panic and try to understand what the question is trying to ask. Keep taking Mock Tests, as when a new type of question comes, your regular practice makes you ready for any type of question.

Step 3 – Practice Questions

Practice a larger number of questions from each topic. You can use R. S. Aggarwal Quantitative Aptitude book for practicing questions of different types. The best resource to practice questions is the previous year’s Paper. The questions from each topic are now more dynamic as compared to previously asked questions. Therefore, you must keep in mind which type of question to practice. This will save you a lot of time as you will know how much time you need to dedicate to the preparation of a particular topic. Step 4 – Practice Through Mock Tests

Now, it is high time that you start attempting a full-length mock test in a week. Make yourself comfortable with attempting time-bound questions. If you need to attempt 50 questions in 40 minutes, then you have less than a minute to attempt a single question. You must try to score above the cut-off marks in each test and also analyse which topic you are weak in. Aim for attempting 35-40 questions with accuracy. Know what concepts you missed out on learning. And look at the solution carefully and remember it for further tests.

Step 5 – Analysis of Tests and Revision

Just attempting the tests is not enough when you prepare for a competitive exam. So, revision of the previously learned concepts is a must. For revision purposes, you can make short notes and maintain a notebook. Recall important formulas. Remember the multiplication table and maintain consistency. These notes should be made in such a way that you can refer to them for the last-minute revision.
