What is Data Interpretation (DI)?
Data Interpretation involves analysing, extracting, and calculating numerical data presented in various graphical or tabular formats such as tables, pie charts, bar graphs, line charts, and caselet forms.
Types Of Data Interpretation Questions
Data Interpretation (DI) questions in the SBI PO exam come in different types, including Tabular DI, where data is presented in tables, and Bar Graph DI, which involves comparing values through bar graphs. Other types include Pie Chart DI, which represents data in circular segments, Line Graph DI, which shows trends over time, and Caselet DI, where data is given in paragraph form, which requires logical analysis. Mixed Graph DI combines multiple formats, making the interpretation more complex. Different types of DI that candidates may encounter in the actual exam are:
- Bar Graphs
- Pie Charts
- Line Graphs
- Tabular Charts
- Mixed Graphs
- Paragraph/Caselet
- Data Sufficiency
| Type of Data Interpretation | Description | Trick for Solving |
| Line Graphs | Represents data points connected by straight lines. | Look for trends and patterns, and focus on the changes between data points rather than individual values. |
| Bar Graph | Uses rectangular bars to show comparisons among categories. | Compare the height or length of bars directly to quickly calculate the differences between categories. |
| Caselet | A small passage of information presented in text form. | Read the entire caselet carefully, identify the key data points, and organize the information systematically. |
| Pie Chart | A circular chart divided into sectors, each representing a proportion of the whole. | Calculate the percentage values for each sector to understand the proportion each section represents. |
| Table DI | Data presented in tabular form. | Focus on the headers and units, and use systematic calculations to compare and analyze the data effectively. |

How to Solve DI Sets in 3 Minutes: Smart Strategy
To crack DI in SBI PO 2025, follow this foolproof time-managed strategy:
Step 1: Quick Glance (20-30 seconds)
- Read the title and understand what data is being presented (sales, profit, population, etc.)
- Identify the units (₹, %, number, ratio)
- Check if any values are missing or total values are given.
Step 2: Choose easy questions first (30-40 seconds)
- In each DI set of 5 questions, 2-3 are calculation-free (maximum, minimum, percentage increase, ratio comparison).
- Attempt these first as they take less time.
Step 3: Use approximation and elimination (40-50 seconds)
- For calculations like (234/752 × 100), round off to the nearest values (230/750 = 0.3066 or 30.66%)
- Use the option elimination technique to reduce the possible answers.
Step 4: Handle long calculations (60-70 seconds)
Attempt questions requiring sum, average or total percentage.
Use Vedic Math tricks:
- Multiplication of numbers ending in zero
- Percentages as fractions (25% = 1/4)
Step 5: Cross-verify and mark (20 seconds)
- Quickly verify whether all the questions in a DI set have been attempted.
- If unsure, skip and move on to the next set.
NOTE:- Ideal time for DI set: 2.5 to 3 minutes
