Weightage of Data Interpretation in SBI Clerk Exam
When we look at the previous year’s SBI Clerk exams, one thing is very clear Data Interpretation (DI) is one of the most important topics in Numerical Ability. As per subject experts, every year on average 2–3 sets of DI are asked, which means 5–11 questions are directly from this topic. You simply cannot afford to skip it if you are aiming for a good score. DI tests your calculation speed with your logical understanding of data, graphs, and tables. Many times, arithmetic concepts are also included inside DI which are average, percentages and ratio& proption, so preparing this topic gives you a double advantage. Based on past year analysis, it is almost certain that DI will carry a high weightage in the exam. So, students must practice DI questions daily and get comfortable with different types like tabular, bar graph, pie chart, and caselets.

Types of Data Interpretation (DI) Asked in SBI Clerk
Over the years, we have seen that 2–3 sets of DI are regularly asked in prelims, it means it is one of the highest-scoring areas of Quantitative Aptitude. The difficulty level is usually easy to moderate, but what really matters is speed and accuracy because you have only 20 minutes for the entire Quant section. That’s why it’s important to know the different types of DI that can come in the exam.
Tabular DI
Tabular DI is the most common type you will find in the SBI Clerk exam. The data is given in rows and columns, and you will be asked to calculate things like totals, averages, ratios, or percentages. The good part is that once you are comfortable with tables, these questions become very quick and accurate to solve with regular practice.
Bar Graph DI
Bar Graphs are another favorites of examiners. The data is shown using vertical or horizontal bars, and questions usually ask you to compare values, find differences, or calculate growth. They are generally straightforward and considered highly scoring.
Line Graph DI
Line Graphs are used to show changes or trends over time. For example, they might show sales or production growth across different years. The trick here is to carefully observe how the line moves up or down and then calculate accordingly. With a calm approach, these can be solved easily.
Pie Chart DI
Pie Chart DI is where a circle is divided into different slices, either in percentages or angles. Sometimes, you may also get double pie charts, which look a little tricky sometimes but you know with practice, anything can turn from tricky to doable.
Caselet DI
Caselet DI is slightly different because no graph or table is given. Instead, you get data in the form of a paragraph. You first need to read carefully, structure the information in your mind (or rough notes), and then solve the questions. It takes more time, but with practice, it becomes manageable.
Mixed Graph DI
Sometimes, you might get two different types of graphs combined, like a bar graph with a pie chart. This is where your analytical ability and speed are tested together. Regular practice is the only way to handle such questions confidently.
