Strategy to Solve Odd One Out Quant Questions Quickly in SBI PO 2025

Follow the steps provided below to solve the odd one out questions quickly in exam:

Step 1: Identify the Pattern Quickly

Check if the series follows a common rule:

  • Arithmetic (+/-)
  • Geometric (×/÷)
  • Prime Numbers
  • Squares/Cubes
  • Alternate pattern
  • Difference of differences (second-level patterns)

Step 2: Calculate Differences Between Numbers

Start by subtracting consecutive numbers. If the difference is not constant, check if it’s increasing/decreasing by a fixed amount.

Example:
45, 40, 36, 33, 30, 26
Differences: -5, -4, -3, -3, -4
Here, the expected difference should be decreasing by 1.
So, 30 is the odd one.

Step 3: Try Division or Multiplication First

Sometimes the numbers are multiplied or divided in a sequence.

Example:
2, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
×2, ×2, +7, ×2, ×2 → 15 breaks the ×2 pattern.

Step 4: Then Check for Prime, Square, or Cube Numbers

These properties often appear in logic:

Example:
4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 48
All are perfect squares except 48

Step 5: Check For Alternate Number Patterns

Sometimes the pattern applies to alternate numbers.

Example:
1, 3, 9, 5, 25, 7
Odd positions: 1, 9, 25 (Squares)
Even positions: 3, 5, 7 → Prime
So all match, but if you had:
1, 3, 8, 5, 25, 7 → 8 is odd

Step 6: Use Elimination & Verify it

Once you select a number from the pattern, mentally replace it with a number that would fit the pattern and confirm if the rest of the sequence makes sense.

Final Tips for Odd One Out Number Series in SBI PO 2025
