IBPS Clerk Selection Process: Only Prelims and Mains

The IBPS Clerk exam has two stages:

1. Preliminary Exam (Prelims)
   
   • This is the first stage.
   • It includes questions from English Language, Reasoning Ability, and Numerical Ability.
   • It is of 100 marks and lasts 1 hour.
     
2. Main Exam (Mains)
   
   • If you clear Prelims, you go to Mains.
   • It includes General Awareness, Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, English, and Quantitative Aptitude.
   • It is of 200 marks and lasts 160 minutes.

There is no interview after the Mains exam. Your final selection is based on your Mains score and the cutoff decided by IBPS.

Why is there no Interview in IBPS Clerk?

Before 2015, interviews were conducted for this post. However, the interview process was later removed for Group ‘C’ and non-gazetted Group ‘B’ category in the Central Government on 31.12. 2015. Others say the job of a bank clerk is mostly non-managerial and process-based. It involves handling cash, helping customers, maintaining records, etc. That’s why IBPS does not interview for this post.

The aim is to select candidates who are quick learners, have good basic skills, and can work efficiently in bank operations. In short, you just need to focus on Prelims and Mains exams to get selected.

Can I Get Clerk Job Without Interview?

Yes, you can become a bank clerk without facing an interview. Once you clear both the Prelims and Mains exams and score above the cutoff, IBPS will allot you a bank based on your merit and preferences. Then, you will get the appointment letter after document verification.

That’s it—no interview, no GD (Group Discussion), and no personal round.
