SBI Clerk is one of those government exams which attracts a lot of young eyes from all over India. Every year you at least expect over a million applicants to register for the SBI Clerk examination.

Even though India has opened the doors for foreign private players for almost 30 years now but for the middle-class people the dream of getting enrolled into a government job hasn’t died yet.

Check Your Base Marks/Level

Toppers are very keen on knowing about their base marks for any exam they prepare. This indicates that they very early in their preparation phase wish to identify how well they do know the exam without taking any coaching, mentorship, or by even looking at previous year question papers. The best way to analyze your base marks is to give an SBI Clerk mock test as soon as possible.

Most aspirants don’t do this because they fear the idea of getting a low score or a bad all-India ranking. They feel they might get intimidated by the exam which would demotivate them to even pursue the exam.

Aspirants should never look at this with such a negative mindset. The entire idea is to know your weak areas, get a fair idea of the exam pattern, and most importantly how much preparation or hard work would you need to crack the prelims or mains. Nearly every aspirant would score low in their first mock. It’s a generalized expectation. Even toppers struggle to sit through in their first mock. So, don’t be disheartened at all.

It’s a gradual process with Mocks

Many aspirants lose patience when they start with mocks. This can happen due to two reasons. One could be that you lack patience and wish to get ahead with this exam within a limited period of time. Another reason could be that you must be comparing yourself with others or might have heard stories of toppers scoring a particular score in their mocks. Doing so will leave you frustrated. Ideally, people can’t even answer 40 questions in their first mock.

The process of attempting 60-70 questions in mocks is a gradual process. It won’t happen in a week’s time. And mocks are generally hard if compared with the actual exams. So, don’t beat yourself up for not being able to scale your attempts rapidly. It isn’t practical at all.

They Never Prioritise One Subject Over the Other

The most common mistake SBI Clerk aspirants do is by prioritizing their favorite subjects which are considered high scoring in nature. The idea behind doing so is to reach the estimated cut-off by scoring high in those subjects. But the reality is that it’s a useless strategy. Adopting such a strategy can never help you in clearing the SBI Clerk examination.

As an aspirant, you should be aware that the State Bank of India doesn’t accept any form of sectional cut-offs. What this essentially means is that you will have to score fairly well in all three sections.  You can choose two subjects as your priority for scoring high marks but don’t leave the third subject out completely.

A clear distinction between Prelims and Mains

Never make the mistake of treating mains examination at par with prelims. Once you give enough mocks for both prelims and mains you might realize that idea behind prelims is to focus on speed and mains comes with the added burden of difficulty.

The catch here is that the time difference between prelims and mains is not enough. So, it’s better you prepare for SBI Clerk from the first day as if you are preparing for mains.

Being Able to Identify Weaknesses and Take Help if Needed

Many aspirants get way too self-dependent even when they are aware they are facing issues with a particular subject or topic. It’s better to take help and move ahead. Remember the time is limited and you have to make the most out of it.
