As per the SBI PO notification 2026, The recruitment process is conducted in three different phases. Candidates have to qualify for one stage before appearing in the next. Unlike many other banking examinations, the Preliminary Exam is only a qualifying stage, while the Main Examination and Interview determine the final merit.

The Main Examination is the stage that actually decides your final ranking. It is conducted online and consists of an Objective Test for 200 marks and a Descriptive Test for 30 marks. The Descriptive Test is administered immediately after the Objective Test concludes, and candidates type their answers directly on the computer.
The Objective Test runs for 3 hours and is divided into 4 sections, each with separate timing.

Phase III consists of three stages: Psychometric Test, Group Exercise, and Personal Interview. This stage checks your personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, and decision-making ability. Candidates shortlisted for Phase III are required to take a Psychometric Test. This test helps SBI assess the personality traits and behavioural profile of candidates. The results are shared with the Interview Panel to provide a better understanding of each candidate during the interview process.
The Psychometric Test may be conducted online under supervision or at designated exam centres. All questions are compulsory. However, the test does not carry any marks and is used only for candidate profiling.
