Many students believe that only toppers can clear tough exams or build a good career. But this is a wrong mindset. When it comes to competitive exams, the definition of a topper changes completely. A topper here is not someone who always stood first in school, but someone who gives 100% effort from day one of preparation. They do not worry about the number of vacancies or the level of competition. Their only focus is to secure one seat for themselves. For this, they follow a proper study strategy with consistency and discipline. The good part is, you can also follow similar strategies, but it is not compulsory to copy them exactly. You can make your own plan according to what suits you the best. In the end, what matters is clearing the exam. In this blog, we will share some strategies that toppers and serious aspirants follow.

SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2025

Each section will have its own time limit. For every wrong answer in the objective test, 0.25 of the marks for that question will be deducted. There are no minimum qualifying marks for each section. Candidates will be shortlisted for the Main Examination in each category based on their total marks in descending order, approximately 10 times the number of vacancies, depending on availability. Candidates who clear both Prelims and Mains but have not studied the local language of the applied state in Class 10 or 12 will have to appear for LLPT. Can You Clear the SBI Clerk 2025 Exam Without Coaching?

Yes, it is absolutely possible to clear the SBI Clerk exam without coaching. Many students think coaching is a must, but this is just a myth. In fact, there are several examples where students prepared on their own and secured top ranks, even AIR 1. On the other hand, many candidates spend lakhs on coaching but still fail because success depends more on self-study and the right strategy than on coaching.

Today, we have no shortage of online resources. You can find free videos on YouTube, study materials, e-books, websites, and even mock tests. Everything is available at your fingertips. But the real difference comes from how you use these resources. Everyone prepares, but not everyone knows how to apply their knowledge in the exam. That’s where successful students stand apart. You can read student success stories here.

The key is to practice as much as possible. Mock tests are the most important part in any competitive exam because they help you understand the type of exam being asked in the exam, manage time, and improve accuracy. Instead of following multiple sources, stick to one reliable source so that you don’t get confused. Make your own strategy, keep revising, and practice daily. As the saying goes, practice makes a man perfect. With consistent effort, you can definitely clear SBI Clerk without coaching.

Best Topper’s Strategy to Crack SBI Clerk Exam

1. Why You Should Attempt a Full-Length Mock Test Before Starting Preparation

Many students feel there is no point in giving a full-length mock test before starting preparation since they don’t know much yet. But giving one mock in the beginning is very useful. It helps you understand the exam interface, the type of questions, and the time pressure. You will also get a clear idea about your strengths and weak areas. Once you know this, you can plan your preparation better and focus more on topics that need improvement. So, don’t skip this step; attempt a full-length mock at the start to create a strong base for your preparation.

2. Divide the Syllabus into Categories

Many toppers follow a simple trick to manage the vast syllabus: they divide it into two categories. The first category includes high-weightage topics that are asked almost every year and are very scoring, like simplification, approximation, number series, and reading comprehension. The second category includes topics that are not constant and may vary from shift to shift or year to year, like probability, mensuration, or data sufficiency. By dividing the syllabus this way, you can plan your preparation better. But remember, in competitive exams like SBI Clerk, you cannot skip any topic. Every single topic matters.

3. Follow One Resource Only

One big mistake students make is switching between too many resources. They see free material here and there and keep changing their source. But toppers say the smart way is to stick to one constant resource. It may take time to find the right one, but once you do, stay with it. For example, you can check the PracticeMock website for eBooks, notes, and other useful study material. Don’t waste time jumping from one book or video to another. Follow one teacher or source and revise it again and again that’s how real improvement happens.

4. Practice with a Timer Daily

One of the most important habits for cracking SBI Clerk is practicing with a timer. Start with topic-wise practice once you feel confident, move to sectional tests, and then full-length mocks. You will notice a drastic improvement in your speed and accuracy. Many students waste time in groups just solving questions without timing, but in the real exam, every second matters. That’s why you should always practice on a desktop/laptop with a stopwatch running. This builds the same exam environment and trains your brain to solve faster under pressure.

5. Learn from Mistakes

Never ignore your mistakes, even if they are from low-weightage topics. Many students only focus on high-weightage chapters, but sometimes those questions can be tricky and time-consuming. On the other hand, low-weightage topics often have easy, scoring questions. If you skip your mistakes, it may become a habit, and later, even simple questions will feel difficult. That’s why after every mock test, note down your mistakes, revise that topic, and reattempt those questions. Toppers always improve by analyzing their errors and turn their weaknesses into strengths.

6. Revision

Revision is the key to success. At the end of the day, revise whatever you studied be it formulas, tricks, or grammar rules. Set a small target for revision; for example, if you studied reasoning in the morning, revise quantitative formulas at night. This way, you stay in touch with all subjects daily. Never skip revision, because only consistent practice and revision will convert your first attempt into a final selection.
