There is no fixed number of attempts in SSC CGL. You can appear for the exam as many times as you want, as long as you are within the age limit for the post you are applying for.
For example, if the age limit for a post is 18 to 30 years, and you first became eligible at age 21, you have 9 possible attempts (from age 21 to 30, one attempt per year).
The number of attempts effectively ends when you cross the upper age limit of the post you want. Age relaxation, wherever applicable, extends this window for reserved category candidates.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are eligible to apply for SSC CGL 2026 with special conditions:
You cannot apply for SSC CGL after Class 12 only. The SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (graduation) for all posts. Class 12 pass is not enough.
However, if you are currently in your final year of graduation, you can apply for SSC CGL. You will need to submit your graduation certificate at the time of document verification.
If you want to apply for central government jobs after Class 12, look at SSC CHSL (which requires Class 12) or SSC MTS (which requires Class 10).
A diploma is generally not accepted as equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree for SSC CGL. The SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria requires a full 3-year or 4-year Bachelor’s Degree from a UGC-recognised university.
However, there is one exception:
Standalone diploma certificates (like a 3-year polytechnic diploma) without a full graduation degree are not accepted for SSC CGL posts.

MBA candidates can apply for all SSC CGL posts. For the Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) post specifically, an MBA in Finance, Business Administration, or Business Economics is listed as a desirable qualification, which gives MBA candidates an added advantage during merit-based selection.
Yes, candidates with backlogs (ATKT) in their graduation can apply for SSC CGL, as long as they have completed and passed their full graduation degree before the last date of application (22 June 2026).
The SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria does not mention any restriction on candidates who had arrears or backlogs during their graduation. What matters is that the final degree is awarded and valid.
However, for the JSO post, candidates need at least 60% in Mathematics at Class 12. If your Class 12 Mathematics score is below 60%, you can still apply for JSO if you have Statistics as a subject in your graduation; the backlog clause does not affect this condition.
Yes, degrees obtained through distance education are valid for SSC CGL eligibility, but only if the university is recognised by:
Degrees from universities that are not recognised by UGC or whose distance education programmes are not approved by DEB are not accepted.
Before applying, check your university’s recognition status on the official UGC website (ugc.gov.in) and the DEB portal (deb.ugc.ac.in).
If your distance education degree is from a recognised and approved source, it is treated exactly the same as a regular full-time degree for SSC CGL purposes.
