SBI Clerk Mains Exam Pattern 2025

The SBI Clerk Mains exam is the final and most important stage of the selection process. It has four sections General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability with Computer Aptitude. In total, there are 190 questions carrying 200 marks, and candidates get 2 hours and 40 minutes to complete the paper.

The General/Financial Awareness section has 50 questions for 50 marks with 35 minutes. The English section has 40 questions for 40 marks, also with 35 minutes. Quantitative Aptitude has 50 questions for 50 marks with 45 minutes. Lastly, Reasoning and Computer Aptitude has 50 questions for 60 marks with 45 minutes.

Marks scored in the Mains exam alone decide the final merit list. Negative marking is also applied, where a 1/4th mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Hence, candidates must focus on accuracy along with speed to clear the exam with a good score.

SBI Clerk Mains Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude Topics

The Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude section is always the most time-consuming and high-scoring part of the exam. Based on year-to-year analysis, puzzles and seating arrangement dominate this section every year. As per student feedback and expert reviews, puzzles are guaranteed to appear and carry at least 15–20 questions. Along with this, topics like coded inequality, syllogism, machine input-output, and coding-decoding are repeatedly tested. The trend also shows that logical reasoning and data sufficiency questions appear frequently, though their weightage may vary slightly every year. Computer aptitude is usually merged with reasoning, so practicing a wide range of puzzle-based and logic-based questions is the key.

SBI Clerk Mains English Language Topics

The English Language section in SBI Clerk Mains has shown a steady pattern over the years. From the analysis, Reading Comprehension (RC) is the most consistent and highest-weightage topic, always carrying 12–16 marks. Other frequently tested areas include error detection, sentence rearrangement, fillers, cloze test, and para jumbles. Student feedback reveals that vocabulary-based questions (like synonyms, antonyms, word swap, and word replacement) are also common. The trend indicates that 3–4 smaller topics together add up to a significant chunk, so you cannot ignore them. For example, even though error spotting or word usage carries 3–4 marks each, combined, they can make a difference in your score. Experts suggest that practicing RC daily, along with regular grammar revision, is the best strategy. The year-wise data clearly shows that these topics repeat, so focusing here can guarantee steady marks in the Mains exam.
