In the SBI PO 2025 Exam, quadratic equations are one of the most important topics. Generally, students find it difficult to crack the questions, as they involve roots and factors. But once you get the method and tricks along with practice in consistency and discipline, it can be a scoring topic for sure. One more thing, such topics are asked to check candidates’ ability to solve problems based on land area, and also analyze profit and loss in business models. In this blog, we are going to discuss the same, along with methods and a bonus trick or formula to solve exam-level questions.

Before starting your preparation, candidates should carefully check the latest SBI PO Notification to understand the exam pattern, syllabus, eligibility, and important dates.

What is a Quadratic Equation?

It is a type of algebraic expression in which the highest power variable is a square. The standard form of the equation is

                                               ax2+bx+c=0

Here, a,b, and c are coefficients that are real numbers. X is the variable or unknown that we have to calculate by solving the equation. Now, bx is a linear term and ax2 is a quadratic term, and c is a constant term. The condition a≠0 must be true, because if a=0, the equation becomes linear, not quadratic.

Example:       2×2+3x−5=0

In this equation:

  • a=2
  • b=3
  • c=−5. If you put the respective values in the above equation you get the value of x in exponential form is square and hence it proves that the above equation is quadratic in nature.

Expected Types of Quadratic Equation questions asked in SBI PO 2025 PDF Link

There are certain types of question that are asked in the prelims stage of SBI PO 2025 Exam. the most important thing is quadratic equation question are directly asked in the prelims stage and often in mixed pattern in mains stage. To have an idea about the types of questions asked and to practice them, we have curated a PDF that is according to the exam pattern and previously asked questions. The link of the pdf is given below.

Types of Quadratic Equations

In the table given below, we have given the types of equations, descriptions, along their example.

TypeDescriptionExample
Simple FactorableEasy to splitx2+5x+6x^2 + 5x + 6
Coefficients >1Like 2×2+7x+32x^2 + 7x + 3Needs smart factoring
Perfect Squaresx2–6x+9=0x^2 – 6x + 9 = 0Root repeated
Negative Rootsx2–5x–6=0x^2 – 5x – 6 = 0One root +ve, one -ve
Decimals/Fractionsx2–2.5x+1=0x^2 – 2.5x + 1 = 0Use formula

Step-by-Step Strategy to solve quadratic equations for SBI PO

Here is a step-by-step strategy to solve the quadratic equation for the SBI PO exam-

Check If You Can Factor It

You will be given two equations, check if they are easily factorable (usually they are, in SBI PO Prelims). Look for two numbers that are multiplied to the product of the first and last terms, and add up to the middle term.

Write Factors Clearly

Once you categorize the factors, solve the roots. For example- x2+7x+12=0→(x+3)(x+4)=0→x=−3,−4

Solve Both Equations Separately

Do the above step with the equation that contains y. Please note that solve both equations separately.

Compare All Four Combinations

Usually, four options are given, and out of them, you have to choose one that satisfies both equations. The four options are: For example, if:

  • x=−3,−4x = -3, -4x=−3,−4
  • y=−1,−2y = -1, -2y=−1,−2

Now compare:

  • x=−3 vs y=−1
  • x=−3vs y=−2
  • x=−4vs y=−1
  • x=−4 vs y=−2

Only if all comparisons give the same direction can you pick a specific answer like x<y.

Use the Right Option

Once you compare all the options now you just have to choose one conclusion that will be given in the options and considered as final answer. Below we have given the usually given options that are given in the paper.

A) x > y

(B) x ≥ y

(C) x < y

(D) x ≤ y

(E) Relationship cannot be determined
