It is a puzzle where several people are sitting either facing in the same direction or opposite direction, and based on the given hints, you have to answer the positions of the people. Here are a few tips to follow while solving the linear seating arrangement questions-
Draw a simple line, now draw boxes as per the given instruction, such as if in the same direction or opposite, and then right initials in one corner.
Marking directions is very important for getting the correct answer, as it can affect the whole seating arrangement of all the people if just one person’s placement is incorrect. Some rules to keep in mind while marking the directions are: Whether people face North or South affects left-right logic. Remember:
The clues that give a direct hint regarding the placement of some people come under the category of direct clues. Examples are “A is at one of the ends” or “B is third to the left of C” help place people directly.
We suggest draw two diagrams side by side and start putting the placements as per clues many a times there are certain clues that create two types of possibility place each at the two diagrams and now solve and eliminate the one which is not likely the right option. This requires practice.
Now, once you sort out the direct clues, combine them with the indirect ones and solve the puzzle. For example, if A is to the left of B and B is to the left of C, place all three accordingly.
