This year, the SBI has changed its exam pattern for prelims and mains exam and most of the questions will be asked from the English Language section. Now the question is How to Boost Your English Language Skills for SBI PO 2025? So, read this blog completely to know all the tips to boost your English Language skills for the SBI PO 2025 exam.

Understand the English Language Section

Before starting the preparation of the English Language section, it is important to understand or get familiar with the syllabus and exam pattern. The English language section in the SBI PO prelims exam consists of a total of 40 questions out of 100 questions. This is the section which takes high weightage among all the sections. You will get a total of 20 minutes to solve this section. So, start your preparation accordingly.

Focus on Vocabulary Building

Vocabulary can be considered as the backbone of the English language section. If you want to get victory in this section your vocabulary must be very strong. A strong vocabulary will not only help you in this section for the exam but it will also help you in all aspects of the exam.

Tips:

  1. You must read daily.
  2. Make a vocabulary notebook.
  3. Solve questions based on sentence completion, identifying errors, etc.
  4. Use word apps.

Improve Your Reading Comprehension

Reading comprehension consists of a good weightage in the SBI PO prelims exam. You must focus on the reading comprehension topic carefully. In this topic, the SBI will provide you with a passage and questions based on that passage. One can master this topic by reading the newspaper, articles, blogs, etc daily.

Master Grammar

Mastering Grammar is very important for the English Language section. It will not only be helpful in the SBI PO exam but also it will helpful in many Government exams. It will be helpful for many topics such as sentence correction, spotting errors, tenses, articles, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, active and passive voice, etc. To improve grammar practice exercises related to it, practice time-framed question papers, analyze your mistakes, and then work on it.

Enhance Your Writing Skills

In SBI PO Mains, you are expected to undertake a descriptive paper wherein you have to write as much as possible. It may not be very relevant to the English Language section, but improving your writing capabilities is very important in the exam. It is advised to write based on the most contemporary and pressing issues like ‘economic growth’, ‘sustainable development’, etc. It is important that all your essays are fully developed in a systematic manner that covers an introductory paragraph and then the body, and a concluding paragraph.

Time Management for the English Section

Another important aspect is time management during the SBI PO exam. There won’t be much time to attempt the English Language section. You will get only 20 minutes in the Prelims, and 40 minutes in the mains to complete the English section.

To improve time management:

  • Set a Time Limit for Each Question: During the scale of the Prelims, attempt not to spend more than 45 – 50 seconds per question. Again you might have slightly more time in Mains, but do not get stuck on a question for too long.
  • Don’t Get Stuck on One Question: If a question seems tough and you have an idea that it can take much time then you are advised to leave that question and move to another one. If you have left time later then come again to that question and attempt it. That way you will not get stuck in one question while the rest of the paper is being prepared.
  • Practice with Timed Mock Tests: Before taking actual tests, try to practice mock tests that are timer-based. It will help you in time management and increase your solving speed.

Practice Topic-wise Questions

Practicing topic-wise questions will help you to get deep knowledge of the topic, weak areas, weak points, etc. If you become able to identify your weak areas, it will help you to focus on those weak areas and improve your score. PracticeMock provides a topic-wise mini-mock test on which you can practice easily to increase your chances of success. Click on the link given below and start your preparation.

Consistency and Revision

As we all know revision is the key to success. If revising with consistency means mastering the English Language easily. You are advised to make a habit or timetable for the revision by which you can do it systematically and focus on important points. English practice should be as constant as brushing your teeth – every day, in any given form: vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. It can be said that practice makes perfect, and nobody says that you will not get perfect after several rehearsals.
