The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the IBPS Clerk 2025 exam to recruit candidates for Customer Service Associates (CSA-XV). This exam was conducted state-wise or by union territories, so applying from your home state or another state is a strategic choice. Every year, thousands of candidates apply for limited seats. Candidates often wonder whether they should apply from their state or from another state where the vacancies may seem more favourable. Here is a detailed analysis that will help you decide.
The IBPS Clerk 2025 recruitment process includes a two-tier online exam: Preliminary exam and Mains exam, followed by a Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) for candidates applying for vacancies in a specific state/UT. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria, including nationality, age, educational qualification and, most importantly, proficiency in the local language of the state/UT they are applying for. The application process will be conducted online from 1st August to 21st August 2025, with a fee of Rs. 175/- for SC/ST/PWD/Ex-Servicemen/WSM candidates and Rs. 850/- for others.
“Since recruitment in the clerical cadre in Public Sector Banks is done on State/UT-wise basis, candidates can apply for vacancies in any one State/UT only.”
This means:

Disadvantages:
Advantages:
Strategic selection: Some states (especially in the south or north-east) have less number of applicants, which means less competition and better chances of selection.
Better vacancy-to-candidate ratio: Selecting a state with a high vacancy-to-applicant ratio can help maximise your chances of selection.
Disadvantages:
The Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) is an important part of the IBPS Clerk selection process. Since the clerical job is state-based, the selected candidate must know the local language of the state they applied for.
Choosing between home state vs other state for IBPS Clerk is not just about cut-offs – it is about language proficiency, adaptability and long-term job satisfaction. While strategic applicants may benefit from applying outside their state, LLPT is a major gatekeeper that weeds out non-serious or untrained candidates.
