The IBPS PO Prelims will be conducted soon. These last few days are crucial in terms of preparation. Most students will focus on practicing from random YouTube videos or Telegram groups. In such a scenario, students also want to know what can be a good attempt in IBPS PO Prelims. As the knowledge of good attempts will help you in getting yourself exam-ready. The good attempt of questions is calculated after the exam based on the level of difficulty of questions, and the average number of questions attempted with accuracy. The exam is conducted in multiple shifts, and the number of good attempts also varies according to the difficulty level in every shift. In this blog, we are going to discuss all the details regarding a good attempt in IBPS PO Prelims.

IBPS PO Prelims Good Attempt

Good attempts are ideally how many questions you should have attempted (with a decent accuracy) to clear the exam. This usually ranges between 60 to 70 questions out of 100, mostly depending on the difficulty of questions, the accuracy, and the expected cutoff. The majority of the time, attempting more questions isn’t always the best strategy. Indeed, attempting questions with 90% accuracy can be a better option. This will help you manage time smartly while attempting the questions from each section.

IBPS PO Previous Year Cutoff

The last year IBPS PO Prelims cutoff is 48.5. Based on this data and the analysis done by our experts, along with the pattern change, we can say that this year, the number of good attempts must be between 60-70 questions.

Section-Wise IBPS PO Good Attempt Analysis

In this section, we are providing a general overview of the number of attempts across sections. It is based on time allocation, complexity, and the pattern with which questions are asked. This year, IBPS has changed its marking scheme; now you can expect each question to be of one mark in the quants and reasoning section, or there might be a mix of 1 and 2-mark questions in either section. No matter what the marking scheme will be, you will get the instructions at first, but make sure that you’re prepared for both. In the table below, we are providing section-wise numbers of good attempts based on the previous year’s analysis.

Overall Number of Good Attempts in IBPS PO Prelims

The overall number of good attempts is around 60-70. But it may vary as there are many factors, such as the difficulty of questions, time management, etc, about which we have talked further in the blog. The overall number is an approximation based on the analysis of previous year papers. This year, as the exam pattern has been slightly changed so we can expect an increase in good attempts in the quants as well as the reasoning sections.

Factors affecting good attempts in IBPS PO Prelims

There are not one but many factors that decide or influence the number of good attempts in IBPS PO Prelims.

They are as follows:

Division of marks: This year’s prelims exam pattern has changed,  which we have already discussed above in the blog.

Level of Exam: If the paper contains more difficult-level questions, it lowers the count of good attempts as students give more time to solve the questions.

Sectional timing and Cutoffs: There is a sectional cutoff that a candidate has to achieve in order to make up to the cutoff list. Sectional timing also plays an important role, as you can attempt a section under a given time period.

Accuracy Rate: If the accuracy is on the higher side, then it ensures that the overall score is high, and hence the number of attempts.

IBPS PO Preparation Tips and Strategy for the last 7 Days

In this section, we have provided a step-by-step strategy for the last 7 days to prepare well for IBPS PO Prelims and make a good attempt at questions, along with accuracy.

Analyse pyqs and make a list of weak areas

Less than 7 days are left. This year, the exam pattern has a slight variation, but solving PYQs (previous year questions) will help you get an idea regarding the difficulty of questions and also what your weak areas are, where you have to work hard.

Work on weak areas by giving mock tests

To improve your weak points, the only way is to practice a lot of questions from that particular area. This can be achieved by giving mocks. It will also give you an exam-like environment, which will help you to prepare for the exam day, where you have to solve under pressure conditions.

Revise strong concepts properly

While working on your weaker points, do not forget to work on your strong areas. Just revise those concepts thoroughly because they can give you a sure shot at getting scores in the coming examination.

Focus on accuracy rather than speed

Accuracy is an important aspect of an exam; it doesn’t matter if you’ve solved 90 questions out of 100 and 30 questions are wrong. Again, there is negative marking, so picking up the right question is necessary.
