1. Tell us about your preparation journey and background.

“I started preparing for competitive banking exams in 2022, and in 2023, after a lot of failures, experiences, and lessons, I got selected as a Teller Service Executive at IDBI Bank. I worked at that bank for a year, and left the job as I soon realized I will not be able to survive at that bank given the work culture and protocols.

After that, I took the leap of faith in me, resigned from IDBI Bank (without any backup in hand) and gathered the courage to start it all over again. My family was totally against my decision, but it was my friends, and seniors who advised me for the resignation and supported me throughout this journey.

My journey was not smooth at all, there were setbacks, self-doubt, and phases of exhaustion. However, I treated each failure as feedback and kept refining my strategy. After resigning from my job, I dedicated myself fully to preparation with a structured routine, regular mock tests, and focused revision.
The journey shaped me mentally and emotionally. It also strengthened my resilience, patience, and belief in long-term consistency. Eventually, the persistence paid off with my selection as an SBI Junior Associate.”

3. How did you prepare for the English section?

“For the English section, I focused more on smart preparation than hard preparation, as I have enjoyed English as a language since my school days.
However, I did not take the section lightly. Instead of memorizing random word lists, I learned vocabulary contextually and maintained a separate notebook for new words along with their meanings and usage.
I regularly practiced sectional quizzes, especially Reading Comprehension, Cloze Tests, and Error Detection from the PracticeMock app. After every mock test, I carefully analyzed my mistakes to identify patterns in grammar errors and avoid repeating them. 4. How did you prepare for the Quantitative Aptitude section?

“This was the section where I used to struggle a lot! So the first thing I did is that I strengthened my basics in arithmetic topics like percentages, profit & loss, ratio, time & work, along with simplification. Once the fundamentals were clear, I moved on to topic-wise practice and then mixed-question sets.

I practiced DI (Data Interpretation) sets daily to improve speed and calculation accuracy. Regular mock tests helped me improve time management, and post-mock analysis helped me identify weak areas. Consistent practice was the key factor in improving this section.”

5. How did you prepare for the Reasoning section?

“In Reasoning section, I focused heavily on puzzles and seating arrangement questions, as they form a major portion of the paper. Initially, puzzles were time-consuming, but I practiced different types daily to recognize patterns quickly.

I also regularly practiced syllogism, inequality, blood relations, and coding-decoding questions to maintain accuracy in smaller topics. Timed practice sessions helped me build speed and decision-making ability during the actual exam.”

6. How did you prepare for the General Awareness section?

“For GA section, I focused more on banking and financial awareness, especially the static part that is being asked more in the clerical examinations. I made daily notes in my notebook, gave weekly CA quizzes from the PM app and revised them multiple times instead of reading too many sources.
Revision was my main strategy in this section. I made short notes for important schemes, banking terms, and static awareness topics to ensure better retention before the exam.”

7. What was your overall preparation strategy?

“My overall strategy was consistency over intensity. Instead of studying for extremely long hours irregularly, I focused on maintaining a structured daily routine.
After resigning, I followed a disciplined schedule that included concept revision, sectional practice, and at least one mock test regularly.

I used to pick up the most challenging subject as the first thing in the morning, when my brain is the most active and the least occupied.

Mock analysis was the most important part of my strategy. I spent significant time reviewing mistakes, identifying weak areas, and refining my attempt strategy. This systematic approach helped me gradually improve my scores and performance stability.”

8. Did you face any challenges during your preparation?

“Yes, there were several challenges. Balancing a full-time job with preparation was mentally and physically exhausting. There were also phases of self-doubt after unsuccessful attempts.

Moreover, family was not much supportive ever since I resigned and came back home. Sooner, I was out of my savings as well and had to pick up some side gig and work at a firm in my area which was really challenging for me.

I treated failures as feedback and adjusted my strategy accordingly. Support from my friends and maintaining a positive mindset helped me stay consistent during difficult phases.”
