Are you preparing for the SSC MTS exam and feeling a bit confused about how to pass it? Do not worry at all. Many students feel nervous when they see the big syllabus. But passing this exam is actually very easy if you study smartly. The SSC MTS paper has four simple sections. Each section needs a different plan to score good marks. In this very simple guide, we will give you easy section-wise preparation tips for Maths, Reasoning, General Awareness, and English to help you secure a safe government job without taking any heavy stress.

Understand the Game First: Session 1 vs. Session 2

Before we talk about tips, you must know a very big secret about the SSC MTS exam. The paper is divided into two parts: Session 1 and Session 2.

  • Session 1 (Maths & Reasoning): This part is only for passing. The best part? There is zero negative marking here. You can safely click an answer for every single question without any fear of losing marks.
  • Session 2 (General Awareness & English): This is the real test. Your marks in this session decide if you will get the job. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer here. You have to be very careful.

Now that you know the rules, let us look at the simple tips for each subject.

1. Numerical and Mathematical Ability (Maths) Tips

Maths is in Session 1, which means you just need passing marks. The questions are purely of the 10th-class level. You do not need to study very thick books or hard formulas.

  • Clear Basic Rules First: Do not run after short tricks on day one. Learn the simple, basic concepts of easy chapters like Percentage, Profit and Loss, and Simple Interest.
  • Learn the Tables: In the exam hall, you will not get a calculator. Memorize multiplication tables up to 20, squares up to 30, and basic fractions (like 25% is 1/4). This will make your math very fast.
  • Skip the Hard Questions: If a question looks very long or confusing, skip it. Do not waste five minutes on one single math question.
  • Attempt Everything: Since there is no negative marking, do your best to solve the paper, and then quickly guess the remaining questions before the time ends.

2. Reasoning Ability Tips

Reasoning is also in Session 1. This is the easiest and most fun subject in the entire exam. It is just like solving daily mind puzzles in a newspaper.

  • Memorize Alphabet Numbers: You must know the exact number position of every English letter (A is 1, M is 13, Z is 26). This habit will help you solve coding-decoding questions in just five seconds.
  • Focus on Pictures: Practice non-verbal reasoning like mirror images, paper folding, and hidden figures. They require zero calculation and give you totally free marks.
  • Give Daily Quizzes: Give a quick 15-minute reasoning quiz on your mobile phone every day. It trains your brain to catch the logic instantly.

3. English Language Tips

English is in Session 2. Your final job depends heavily on this subject. Many Hindi medium students get scared here, but the board only checks your basic daily reading habits.

  • Make a Word Diary: Vocabulary (meaning of words) carries huge marks. Buy a small pocket diary. Write down 10 new words, synonyms, and idioms every morning. Read this diary while traveling or eating.
  • Read Simple English: Do not read hard English newspapers. Read simple short stories or basic sports news for 20 minutes daily. This helps you read passages much faster in the exam.
  • Practice Cloze Tests: A cloze test is a short paragraph with blank spaces. Practice one cloze test every single day to build your guessing power.
  • Do Not Guess Blindly: Remember, if you mark a wrong answer here, 1 mark will be cut. If you do not know the word meaning, just leave it blank.

4. General Awareness (GK) Tips

This is the second subject in Session 2 that decides your merit. GK is like an ocean. If you try to read everything, you will easily forget everything. You have to study this section very smartly.

  • Target Static GK: The examiner loves to ask about Indian folk dances, famous festivals, old books, and national parks. Make short lists of these topics and paste them on your wall.
  • Focus on Current News: Read a simple monthly current affairs PDF. Focus heavily on sports awards, new government appointments, and schemes from the last six months only.
  • Read Basic Science: You will get 3 to 4 questions from everyday school science. Focus on human diseases, vitamins, and simple biology facts.
  • Take Mobile Quizzes: Give small 5-minute GK quizzes while resting. It helps your brain remember facts easily without opening a book.

Final Golden Tip: Mock Tests

Reading books is only half the journey. Mock tests are your real practice ground. Give one full mock test every Sunday. Sit in a quiet room and give the test exactly like the real exam. Always check your mistakes after the test ends so you never repeat them. Keep your study plan simple, trust your daily hard work, and you will surely clear the SSC MTS exam.
