The selection process begins with the Tier 1 (CBT) exam, which is the most critical stage for shortlisting. The total test duration is 60 minutes for 80 questions.
The SSC GD Tier 1 CBT is mandatory for all candidates. Note that each question carries 2 marks, and there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks (or 1/8th of the total marks for the question) for every wrong answer.

Candidates who pass the Tier 1 CBT are called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST). These are mandatory qualifying tests conducted by the CAPFs.
The PET involves a running test that must be cleared within the time limit:
