To crack the IBPS RRB Clerk 2025 exam, especially the Quantitative Aptitude section, you have to get comfortable with “Speed, Time, and Distance.” This topic might seem simple, but it’s highly scoring. Around 3-4 are asked in the Prelims, and the great thing is, they are easily solvable pretty fast if you know your tips and formulas. In this blog, we will tell you about the tips and types of speed, time, and work questions asked in the RRB Clerk exam.

What is Speed, Distance, and Time?

This topic is about how fast something moves, how long it takes, and how much work is done. It includes Time, Speed, and Distance – How far something goes in a certain time at a given speed. These questions are usually easy to moderate. Practicing this chapter gives you a big accuracy boost because the questions follow fixed patterns. With proper practice and formula knowledge, you can solve them in under a minute.

Why is Speed, Distance, and Time important?

In the RRB Clerk exam, even though only 3 to 4 questions come from this chapter, it is highly scoring. The reason? The formulas are simple, and the questions follow fixed patterns. If you have practiced enough, you can solve these questions in less than a minute.

Important Formulas for Time, Speed, and Distance

Let’s break down the main formulas used in this topic and what each word means:

  • Speed (S) = Distance (D) ÷ Time (T)
    If you know how far something went and how long it took, you can find the speed.
    S = D/T
  • Distance (D) = Speed (S) × Time (T)
    If you know speed and time, you can find distance.
    D = S×T
  • Time (T) = Distance (D) ÷ Speed (S)
    If you know distance and speed, you can find time.
    T = D/S

Unit Conversion

  • 1 km/hr = (5/18) m/s
  • 1 m/s = (18/5) km/hr

Relative Speed

  • If two objects move towards each other:
    Relative Speed = S₁ + S₂
  • If two objects move in the same direction:
    Relative Speed = |S₁ – S₂|

Meeting Time Formula

If two objects start from opposite ends and move towards each other:

  • Time to meet = Distance between them ÷ (Sum of their speeds)
