The SBI PO Mains exam is designed to assess candidates’ analytical ability, banking awareness, decision-making skills, communication ability, and overall suitability for a managerial role in the State Bank of India. Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are shortlisted for the Psychometric Test, Group Exercise, and Interview stage.
The SBI PO Descriptive Test is conducted along with the Main Examination and is designed to assess a candidate’s writing, communication, and analytical skills. The test is conducted online, and candidates are required to type their responses on a computer.

Candidates may be required to draft formal or informal emails, write reports on current issues, analyze a given situation, or summarize a passage in a concise manner.
A good score in the Descriptive Test can significantly strengthen a candidate’s overall performance in the SBI PO Mains Examination and improve their chances of reaching the Interview stage.
Each candidate must secure the minimum qualifying marks in every test/section of the Main Examination, i.e., Test I, Test II, Test III, Test IV, and the Descriptive Test individually. Based on the number of vacancies, SBI will determine the sectional cut-offs for each section.

A category-wise merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Main Examination. Candidates up to approximately three times the number of category-wise vacancies will be shortlisted for Phase III from the top of the merit list, subject to securing the minimum aggregate qualifying score prescribed by the Bank.
There will be a penalty for incorrect answers marked in the Objective Tests. For every wrong answer, one-fourth (1/4th) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty while calculating the corrected score. No penalty will be imposed for unanswered questions.
Candidates shortlisted for Phase III will be required to undergo a Psychometric Test conducted by SBI for personality profiling. The findings of this test will be shared with the Interview Panel to provide a comprehensive assessment of the candidate’s personality, behavioural traits, and suitability for the role.
The Psychometric Test may be conducted either through a proctored online mode or at designated examination centres, as decided by the Bank. Candidates must answer all questions in the test, as every question is mandatory for profiling purposes.
