RRB JE CBT 1 is screening in nature, whereas CBT 2 is the merit-deciding stage. Candidates should therefore prepare for both stages from the beginning. Technical Abilities carries 100 out of 150 questions in CBT 2, making it one of the most important sections of the examination. Candidates should be careful while making guesses because one-third mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. Attempting questions randomly can reduce the overall score. During practice tests, develop the habit of identifying questions that can be solved confidently and avoid unnecessary risk-taking in the actual examination.
The RRB JE Syllabus 2026 requires candidates to prepare for two different stages. CBT 1 tests Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and General Science and acts as a screening examination. CBT 2 is the main stage and includes General Awareness, Physics & Chemistry, Computer Applications, Environment & Pollution Control, and Technical Abilities, with the technical section carrying 100 out of 150 marks.
The most effective approach is to prepare both stages together. Build strong fundamentals for CBT 1, keep General Awareness updated, practise common subjects regularly, and devote substantial preparation time to your branch-specific Technical syllabus. Combine topic-wise practice with previous year questions, sectional tests, full-length mocks and detailed analysis. With systematic revision and consistent practice, the RRB JE Syllabus becomes much easier to cover and manage.
