The recruitment has now been expanded to include the Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) post. Along with the addition of 35 CMA vacancies, the total vacancies under CEN 04/2026 have been revised from 3,993 to 4,029.
The corrigendum also adds the CMA Exam Group syllabus, modifies the name of the recruitment notice to include CMA, and introduces B-2 as an additional medical standard. Candidates applying for DMS through qualifications not listed in the prescribed mapping must choose an eligible Exam Group other than CMA Exam Group.

The Railway Recruitment Boards have announced the tentative schedule for RRB JE CBT-I 2026. The 1st Stage CBT-I will be conducted on 27, 28 and 30 October 2026. The Exam City & Date Intimation is expected to be made available approximately 10 days before the respective exam date, while the E-Call Letter will be available approximately 4 days before the exam date. Before applying for RRB JE Recruitment 2026, candidates must carefully check the prescribed educational qualification, age limit and medical standards for the post they wish to select.
The eligibility conditions are provisional at the application stage and are verified against original documents during Document Verification.
The educational qualification differs according to the post and discipline. Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification from a recognized University or Institution on or before 13 September 2026, which is the closing date for submission of applications.
Candidates awaiting the final result of their prescribed educational or technical qualification are not eligible to apply.
For several Junior Engineer posts, the required qualification includes a three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline or an applicable combination of sub-streams. The notification provides detailed qualification requirements for individual posts in Annexure A.
For example, the notification specifies relevant engineering qualifications for Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Signal & Telecommunication JE posts.
For the Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) post, candidates must possess a three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution.
The notification also states that higher qualifications such as B.E./B.Tech are acceptable in lieu of the three-year Diploma in Engineering in the same discipline.
Candidates applying for the Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) post must have a B.Sc. degree in Physics and Chemistry with at least 45% marks from a recognized University or Institution. The prescribed qualification includes specified combinations involving Physics and Chemistry as detailed in the corrigendum.
The CMA post carries Pay Level 6, an initial pay of ₹35,400, and the prescribed age limit is 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027. The medical standard specified for CMA is B-1.

The RRB JE Selection Process 2026 consists of four stages:

CBT-I is a screening examination common to all notified posts. It consists of 100 objective-type questions and has a duration of 90 minutes.
The normalized marks obtained in CBT-I are used for shortlisting candidates for CBT-II.

There is a negative marking of 1/3 mark for every incorrect answer. The minimum percentage prescribed is 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST candidates.
Candidates are shortlisted for CBT-II based on their normalized CBT-I marks. The number of candidates shortlisted for CBT-II will generally be 15 times the community-wise total vacancies notified against the concerned RRB, subject to the provisions mentioned in the CEN.
CBT-II consists of 150 questions for 150 marks and has a duration of 120 minutes.

Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification will be required to produce their original certificates and documents.
The shortlisting for DV is based on merit in CBT-II and the applicable options. The number of candidates shortlisted for DV will be equal to the number of vacancies. Candidates who fail to produce the required original certificates on the scheduled date may have their candidature forfeited.
Medical fitness is an important part of the RRB JE selection process. Candidates called for DV must pass the prescribed medical standards applicable to their opted post.
The notification specifies different medical standards, including A-3, B-1 and C-1, depending on the post. Visual acuity requirements also vary according to the prescribed medical standard.
Candidates found medically unsuitable for their opted post will not be provided an alternative appointment by the Railways.
The notified Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent posts are placed at Level 6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, with an initial pay of ₹35,400. The exact monthly in-hand salary will depend on applicable allowances and deductions.
