Solution:
Passing marks = Marks scored + Marks required to pass
= 360 + 40
= 400 marks

50% of maximum marks = 400
Maximum marks = (400 × 100) ÷ 50
= 800 marks
Answer: 800 marks

Q5. The population of a town is 50,000. It increases by 10% in the first year and 20% in the second year. Find the new population.

Solution:
Population after the first year:
= 50,000 × 1.10
= 55,000

Population after the second year:
= 55,000 × 1.20
= 66,000
