Intelligence Bureau- Security Assistant/ Executive Exam

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is India’s premier intelligence agency. It is responsible for gathering and analyzing intelligence related to national security. The IB conducts the Security Assistant/ Executive (SA/Exe) exam to recruit candidates for various security and administrative positions.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the IB SA/Exe exam are as follows:

  • Nationality: Indian citizen
  • Age: Minimum 18 years and maximum 27 years as on the closing date of the application
  • Educational Qualification: Matriculation (10th pass) or equivalent qualification from a recognized board of education
  • Domicile: Candidate must possess a domicile certificate of the state against which he/she has applied
  • Driving License: Candidate must possess a valid driving license for motor cars (LMV) issued by the competent authority
  • Experience: Knowledge of motor mechanism (The candidate should be able to remove minor defects in the vehicle); Experience of driving a motor car for at least one year after obtaining valid driving license

Exam Pattern

The IB SA/Exe exam is conducted in two stages: Tier-I and Tier-II.

Tier-I Exam

The Tier-I Exam is an online computer-based test (CBT) that consists of 100 objective-type questions. The time duration for the Tier-I Exam is 1 hour. There is a negative marking of ¼ mark for each wrong answer.

The syllabus for the Tier-I Exam covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Classification, Series Completion, Number and Letter Sequences, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Similarities and Differences, Venn Diagrams, Analogy and Classification
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: History, Geography, Polity, Economics, General Science, Current Affairs
  • English Language: Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar, Composition

Tier-II Exam

The Tier-II Exam is an offline exam that consists of two parts: Part-I and Part-II.

  • Part-I (Common for all candidates): Translation of a passage of 500 words from the local language/dialect to English and vice versa. This offline descriptive test will be of 40 marks and the duration for the exam will be 1 hour.
  • Part-II (Subject Specific): Objective-type questions related to the candidate’s choice of subject. The time duration for Part-II is 2 hours.

Selection Process

The selection process for the IB SA/Exe exam is based on the performance of the candidates in the Tier-I and Tier-II exams. Candidates who qualify the Tier-I Exam will be eligible to appear for the Tier-II Exam. Candidates who qualify both the Tier-I and Tier-II exams will be called for a document verification and physical efficiency test. The final selection will be based on the overall performance in the Tier-I, Tier-II, physical efficiency test, and interview.
