Session 1 contains Mathematics and Reasoning. There is absolutely no negative marking in this session, and you only need to score basic passing marks to qualify. Session 2 contains English Language and General Awareness. It is an important session because your selection depends on it. Below, we have provided the exam pattern for SSC MTS exam.

1. Important Topics for English Language (Session 2)

English is the most scoring subject if you prepare it the right way. The questions are based purely on 10th-standard basic grammar and daily vocabulary.

  • Vocabulary: This covers synonyms, antonyms, and correct spellings. Do not read thick dictionary books. Just memorize the previous year’s vocabulary questions asked by SSC in the last three years.
  • Cloze Test: You will get a simple story or paragraph with five blank spaces. You just have to choose the right basic word to fill the blanks. Reading simple English articles daily will make this very easy for you.
  • Idioms and Phrases: These are common English sayings. Once you read a list of the most repeated idioms, you will easily remember them in the exam hall.
  • One-Word Substitution: Questions where you have to replace a whole sentence with a single word.
  • Spotting the Error: Focus only on basic grammar rules like subject-verb agreement, common prepositions, and tenses. Do not go into very deep grammar rules.

2. Important Topics for General Awareness (Session 2)

This section decides your final rank. The syllabus is huge, but you should only focus on the areas that SSC loves to ask in the MTS exam.

  • Static GK: This is the most important part. Memorize Indian folk dances, classical music, famous festivals of different states, important books and authors, and national parks. Make short notes and revise them every morning.
  • Current Affairs: Focus on the news of the last six to eight months. Read specifically about sports awards, recent government schemes, and important new appointments.
  • General Science: Stick strictly to basic 10th-level NCERT facts. Focus on human body biology, vitamins, diseases, and basic chemical formulas.
  • Indian Polity: Memorize the fundamental rights, duties, important articles of the constitution, and the basic roles of the President and Parliament.
  • History: Focus heavily on the modern Indian freedom struggle, the establishment of the Indian National Congress, and the Gandhi era.

3. Important Topics for Reasoning (Session 1)

Since Session 1 is only qualifying, you just need to practice enough to comfortably pass the cutoff. Reasoning is very easy and fun to solve.

  • Coding-Decoding: Memorize the number positions of the English alphabet. This will help you find the hidden pattern in seconds.
  • Number and Alphabet Series: Basic addition, subtraction, or square logic applied to a line of numbers.
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Questions based on mirror images, hidden figures, and completing the visual pattern. You do not even need a pen for these.
  • Analogy and Classification: Finding the odd word out or finding the relationship between two words.
  • Syllogism: Basic statement and conclusion questions that can be solved easily using simple circles.

4. Important Topics for Mathematics (Session 1)

Do not let Mathematics scare you. There is no advanced maths like trigonometry or deep geometry in the SSC MTS exam. It is pure basic arithmetic.

  • Percentage, Profit and Loss: This is the base of the entire mathematics section. Learn the basic fraction values to solve these quickly.
  • Simplification and BODMAS: Simple calculation questions where you have to add, subtract, multiply, and divide correctly.
  • Time and Work: Questions about how many days a person takes to finish a job. Learn the simple LCM method to solve these without formulas.
  • Average and Ratio: Simple, direct formula-based questions.
  • Basic Mensuration: Just learn the direct formulas for the area and volume of squares, rectangles, cylinders, and cones.

Simple Tricks to Clear the Exam

  1. Focus on Previous Year Papers: SSC repeats its questions massively. Solving the last three years of MTS question papers is more important than reading any new book.
  2. Give Daily Topic Tests: Give short 15-minute tests on your mobile phone for your weak chapters. It helps you remember the facts permanently.
  3. Master Time Management: Even though Session 1 has no negative marking, do not waste all your time on one hard math puzzle. Learn to skip hard questions and grab the easy marks first.

You do not need to be a topper to clear the SSC MTS exam. You just need to be consistent with your practice. Stick to these important topics, revise daily, and you will definitely see your name in the final list.
